  1. Rz and sz are Unix programs designed to support dial-in XMODEM,
  2. YMODEM, and ZMODEM transfers via the controlling TTY port.
  3.  
  4. The contents of this archive can be uploaded to a remote Unix or
  5. Xenix system by ZCOMM or Professional-YAM using the supplied
  6. zupl.t script.  Connect to your Unix/Xenix system, select an
  7. empty directory, and then give the YAM/ZCOMM command: "source
  8. zupl.t".  This will upload minirb.c, compile it, and then use
  9. minirb to bootstrap upload the rz/sz files.

  11. Once these files are on your Unix system, you can type "make".
  12. The Makefile will list the various systems it knows how to
  13. compile the programs for, and the command to do so (e.g.,
  14. "make bsd").

  16. The Makefile is self explanatory; just say "make".
  17.  
  18. Rz and sz work best with comm programs that properly support
  19. ZMODEM command and file AutoDownload (Pro-YAM and ZCOMM).

  21. The "GSZ" shareware program allows ZMODEM file transfers with
  22. traditional DOS comm programs.  GSZ provides a "mini term
  23. function" that supports ZMODEM AutoDownload.  GSZ (part of
  24. GSZ.ZIP) and ZCOMM (ZCOMMEXE.ZIP, ZCOMMDOC.ZIP, ZCOMMHLP.ZIP)
  25. are available on TeleGodzilla and other fine bulletin boards.

  27. Rz ans Sz are Copyrighted shareware programs.  Commercial Use of
  28. these programs is subject to licensing conditions detailed in
  29. the rz.c source code.  "Commercial Use" includes use of this
  30. program to receive files from commercial and/or shareware
  31. programs not published by Omen Technology INC.  Please print the
  32. "mailer.rz" file, fill out the form and return same with your
  33. registration.

  35. Previous versions of rz and sz (April 1988) are Public Domain.

  37. The Man pages are formatted for those without Unix nroff.
  38. For best results, use less(1) (available on comp.sources.misc)
  39. as your manual page reader.

  42. Rs and sz now use the same version number.

  44. Oct 4 1991:  Fixed bug in rz crash recovery.

  46. Sep 1991: Major hacking to work around SVR4 bug.  Append and crash
  47. recovery of shrinking files corrected.  Sz now supports rename.
  48. Sz -c changed to zcommand, rx -c file changed to rc file.

  50. Feb 1991: various corrections and simplifications.  Sz now
  51. stores critical error messages for post mortem display.

  53. VMS systems are now supported with native VMS versions in
  54. RZSZ.TLB.  The rz and sz in RZSZ.TLB support wild cards and
  55. VMS record types.

  57. May 1989: Corrections for undefined variable and multiply
  58. defined rdchk() on some systems.

  60. New for 1989: ZMODEM compression and other compatible
  61. extensions have been added to the rz and sz programs.

  63. for licensing information.

  66. In order for us to handle problem reports, we must have the
  67. exact error messages displayed by Professional-YAM.  If you are
  68. not using an Omen Technology product to talk to rz/sz, and have
  69. not registered rz/sz, please contact the author of the program
  70. you are using for support.  Some heavily marketed programs do
  71. not fully support the ZMODEM protocol.
