  7. This file contains important information about the
  8. release of CA-Clipper 5.3.  This file is provided as an
  9. update to your printed CA-Clipper documentation.

  12. FLOPPY DISK INSTALLATION
  13.  
  14. CA-Clipper 5.3 may be installed from within Windows or
  15. DOS.  To install from within Windows, use the INSTALL.EXE
  16. on disk 1.  To install from DOS, use the INSTALL.EXE on
  17. disk 5.

  20. CD-ROM INSTALLATION
  21.  
  22. CA-Clipper 5.3 may be installed from within Windows or
  23. DOS.  To install from within Windows, use the INSTALL.EXE
  24. in the WINDOWS directory of your CD-ROM drive.  To install
  25. from DOS, use the INSTALL.EXE in the DOS directory of your
  26. CD-ROM drive.

  29. VERY IMPORTANT -- If you install a new repository over
  30. your existing one, all data in the forms, menus, and data
  31. servers will be lost.  These items are stored in the
  32. "Binary Objects" module and installing a new repository
  33. will overwrite this information.  In addition, the
  34. dependencies between different .PRG and header files will
  35. also be lost.  Your source code itself, however, will not
  36. be effected.

  39. INSTALLING FROM WINDOWS
  40.  
  41. If you are using the Windows installer and your copy of
  42. Windows is NOT installed on the same disk drive as your
  43. AUTOEXEC.BAT file (i.e., Windows is on the D: drive and
  44. your AUTOEXEC.BAT file is on the C: drive), at the end of
  45. the installation, the installer will bring up an error
  46. message.  The message states, "Cannot find autoexec.bat.
  47. Would you like to create it?"  Simply answer NO to this
  48. question and from the Open file dialog box that appears,
  49. locate your copy of AUTOEXEC.BAT and press OK.  The
  50. installation will continue correctly from this point.

  53. INSTALLING FROM A NETWORK DRIVE
  54.  
  55. If you have problems when attempting to run the
  56. installation program from a network drive, copy the
  57. contents of disk 1 to a floppy disk using XCOPY with
  58. the /S option and install from the floppy drive.  Then,
  59. when prompted for the location of the other disks,
  60. enter the appropriate network drive and directory.

  62. It is important that the installation procedure run
  63. from beginning to end with no problems.  Therefore, if
  64. your system locks up or suddenly exits from Windows to
  65. the DOS prompt during installation, follow the advice
  66. given above.  Otherwise, you cannot be sure that
  67. CA-Clipper was installed successfully.

  70. INSTALLING FROM DOS

  72. If you have chosen the DOS install to install CA-Clipper
  73. 5.3, you must be aware that none of the files necessary
  74. to run the CA-Clipper Workbench will be installed.  If
  75. you would like to run CA-Clipper under Windows using the
  76. Workbench, you must run the Windows installation from
  77. disk 1.

  80. REBOOT AFTER INSTALLATION!

  82. After CA-Clipper 5.3 has been installed, be sure to
  83. reboot your computer for all of the system's changes
  84. to take effect.
