  6.                EVALUATION AND VALIDATION (E&V) TASK
  7.  
  8.     The purpose of the Ada Programming Support Environment  (APSE)
  9. Evaluation and Validation (E&V) task is to develop the techniques  and
  10. tools which will provide a  capability to perform assessment of  APSEs
  11. and to determine conformance of APSEs to the Ada Joint Program  Office
  12. (AJPO) sponsored  Common  APSE  Interface  Set  (CAIS).   As  the  E&V
  13. technology is developed, it  will be made  available to the  community
  14. for use by the DoD components, industry and academia.

  16.     E&V Documents and other E&V related publications are available
  17. on the DDN host Ada20, in the <EV-INFO> directory.  A recent addition
  18. to this directory is the file COMPILER-CRITERIA which is a list of
  19. evaluation criteria and associated tests for use in assessing numerous
  20. attributes of Ada compilers. The EV-Info directory on the Ada20
  21. computer is available to authorized DDN users only.  The directory is
  22. resident on the University of Southern California Information Sciences
  23. Institute, System F (USC-ISIF), whose alias is Ada20, and is
  24. accessible via the Defense Data Network (DDN).

  26.            The DDN is a collection of approximately eighty
  27. different computer networks representing DoD facilities, research
  28. centers and academia throughout the free world.  All of the
  29. networks are packet-switching systems with interconnections at
  30. various locations.  Access to the DDN is controlled by the
  31. Department of Defense.  To obtain access to the DDN it is first
  32. necessary to have a computer directory or access to a directory
  33. on one of the several thousand host computers comprising the
  34. system.  The AJPO maintains two hosts at the ISI facility in
  35. California: the Ada20 and the Adavax.  Access to these systems is
  36. controlled by the AJPO and is limited to those individuals
  37. providing a significant level of support to the Ada effort.  Once
  38. access is obtained to one of these systems or to any other DDN
  39. host, the system administrator will provide directory and
  40. password information to the user.  The following is the procedure
  41. for making a connection to the EV-Info directory from a DDN
  42. host.

  45. For Ada20 Users:
  46.  
  47.         1.  Log into your directory on Ada20.
  48.  
  49.         2.  Type "Type <EV-Info>Files.Hlp" for a listing of all help
  50.             files in the EV-Info directory.
  51.  
  52.         3.  To View one of the files from this listing, type
  53.             "Type <EV-Info>Filename.Ext" where 'Filename' is the name
  54.             of a file in the listing.

  56.         4.  To Copy one of the files from this listing to a local directory,
  57.             type "Copy <EV-Info>Filename.Ext Fileb.Ext" where 'Filename' is
  58.             the name of a file in the listing and Fileb.Ext is the new local
  59.             file name.

  62. For users of other DDN computers supporting the FTP program:
  63.  
  64.         1.   From a directory on the other machine, invoke FTP.
  65.  
  66.         2.   Establish a connection to the Ada20.
  67.  
  68.         3.   When the 'Connection Opened' message is displayed; login by
  69.             typing "Log Anonymous Username" where 'Username' is the user
  70.             login name on the other machine.

  72.         4.   When the 'User Logged in' message appears, type
  73.             "Get <EV-Info>Files.Hlp Fileb.Ext" where Fileb.Ext is
  74.             the local filename to write.

  76.         5.  To read a desired file(?), step repeated substituting the
  77.             new filename for 'Files'.
