- NetWatch
- Virtual Networks
- ---------------------------------------------------------------------
-
- This is a demo version of NetWatch, a Novell network
- diagnostic and monitoring program. It allows the user to view
- statistical and configuration information for any workstation or
- server on the network. It can be very useful in finding network
- problems or keeping track of configuration parameters. A database
- can be created to which you may add your own notes. You can print
- the database information to a printer or a file. This demo version
- will limit itself at 4 nodes (workstations or servers). A full
- function version may be obtained from:

- Virtual Network Systems is dedicated to providing low cost
- software solutions. In order to keep cost down, every effort has
- been put into making the software as easy to install and use as
- possible. At this time technical support is NOT available via the phone,
- however questions will be answered if sent via email (Compuserve 75360,2001),
- or regular mail. Your suggestions are appreciated.
-
-
- This demo version is identical to the real thing with the
- exception of the limit on the number of nodes that may be viewed.
- The network is scanned when NetWatch is executed and the first 4
- nodes to respond will be the ones that are used. At least one server
- will always be in the list. The list may change each time the
- software is executed depending on which nodes answer first.
-
- The main menu allows you to select Workstations, Users,
- Servers, Bridges, Point To Point Tests, or the Database option. These
- options are described below.
-
- Workstations: Displays a list of all workstations by network
- address and primary server/user. Select the
- desired workstation and view the IPX or SPX
- statistics, shell statistics or configuration,
- or login information (all server/users logged
- in at that workstation.
-
- Users: Select an attached server and the user names
- are displayed. Select the user and view the
- same information available for workstations.
-
- Servers: Displays a list of all servers by name.
- Select the server and view IPX or SPX
- statistics, or server statistics (If attached).
- NOTE: Server statistics are not available for
- Netware 3.x servers at this time.
-
- Bridges: Displays a list of bridges by address and name
- (if available). Select the bridge and view
- IPX or SPX statistics. The statistics and
- configuration information for each LAN is also
- available.
-
-
- Point To
- Point Tests: All nodes are displayed by address and name.
- Select a source and destination node and send
- packets from one to the other. This is useful
- in testing network connections.
-
- Database: Create/Maintain the node database. You may
- print a map of all nodes currently active
- (Print Network Map) or print the database
- information along with the notes you have
- added.
-
-
-
- Special function keys:
-
- F1 -- Displays on line help.
-
- F2 -- Prints the displayed statistical or
- configuration information.
-
- ESC -- Returns to the previous menu or exits
- the program if pressed from the main
- menu.
-
- Press F1 two times to see a list of edit keys. You will find
- that they are the same keys used in the Netware utilities SYSCON,
- FCONSOLE, etc.
-
- INSTALLATION:
-
- Installation is simple - Just copy the files from the floppy
- to a directory of your choice. You will need rights to create and
- modify files in this directory as this is where the database files
- will go. Type NETWATCH to start. The first time up the network will
- automatically be scanned. All nodes that are powered on and have at
- least IPX loaded will be added to the list. (Up to 4 in this demo
- version). You may then look at statistics or create the database by
- selecting NETWORK MANAGMENT, then NODE DATABASE, and finally BROWSE.
- The first time you BROWSE the database will be created from the list
- of active nodes.
-
- NOTE: You should be attached to all servers with sufficient
- rights in order for Netwatch to correctly identify the user at each
- node and to use the server statistics options. If you are not
- attached to a particular server the user name of workstations logged
- in to that server will not be available and you will not be able to
- view server statistics (except IPX & SPX statistics).
