- MAP
- Version 1.11
- May 09, 1991
-
- MAP is a utility for the Artisoft LANtastic network operating
- system version 3.xx. MAP provides the functionality of the
- Artisoft NET SHOW and NET POSTBOX commands in one simple, easy to
- read display. The information provided by MAP is as follows:
-
- The version of the NOS that you are running.
-
- A list of all of your current redirections.
-
- A list of all of the servers that you are logged on to. This
- list will also indicate the user name that you are using and
- whether or not you have any mail on that server.
-
- The description of each resource.
-
- MAP is a very easy utility to use, simply place it somewhere along
- your DOS PATH and execute the command 'MAP'. We have it in our
- X:\NETUTILS subdirectory on the file server. This subdirectory is
- appended to our path in STARTNET.BAT so that everyone has access
- to it when they are up on the network.
-
- The output of MAP is written to STDOUT and is therefor
- redirectable. This means you can do the following:
-
- C:> MAP | MORE ' Pipe output through a filter
-
- C:> MAP > MAP.LST ' Redirect output to a file
-
- Beginning with version 1.08, there are two command line switches
- for MAP:
-
- P - Causes the output to be 'paged' (similar to DIR /P)
- 2 - Causes the list of redirections to be split into two
- separate lists, one contains disk devices, the
- other, printers.
-
- These two options were added at the suggestion of John Soltow -
- Thanks John.
-
- Beginning with version 1.10, there is an additional command line
- switch for MAP:
-
- D - Causes the output to include the description of the shared
- resource with the output. This switch and the /2 switch are
- mutually exclusive. If both are included on the command line,
- the one that is last is the one that will be processed.
-
- These command line switches are case and prefix character insensitive.
- Therefor, you may enter MAP 2 or MAP /2 or MAP 2p or MAP -P2, all are
- valid.
-
- Also beginning with MAP version 1.10, there is support for a single
- DOS Environment variable. You can set the environment variable MAP
- equal to the default command line. For example, if you normally use
- paged output with descriptions, you could enter the following:
-
- SET MAP=/P/D
-
- to establish the MAP environment variable; then entering MAP at the
- DOS command line would be the equivalent of entering MAP /P/D.
-
- Beginning with version 1.11, there are two additional command line
- switches for MAP:
-
- H and ? - These switches display a help screen that describes
- the command line options for MAP. If this option is used,
- the help screen is displayed and then MAP exits with no
- further processing.
-
- Version 1.11 corrects a bug in the Description option processing. When
- a shared resource doesn't have a descrption (as is the case for CD-ROM's
- and attached resources to which you have no rights), MAP would repeat
- the description of the previous resource. Thanks to Dennis Snipes for
- reporting this bug and earning a free registration.
-
- If you find MAP of value, please register with me. There are three
- basic types of registration:
-
- 1. Simple registration. This option simply clears your
- conscience and lets you use MAP and receive notices of
- future upgrades. The cost for simple registration is
- $5.00.
-
- 2. Complex registration. (What else is the opposite of
- Simple???) This option entitles you to everything that
- you get for simple registration and also gets you a disk
- with the source code to MAP. MAP is written in
- Turbo C++. The cost for complex registration is $15.00
- which covers the cost of simple registration and also a
- diskette and shipping to US addresses (foreign add
- another $1.00).
-
- 3. Suggestor registration. This option is the equivalent
- of simple registration. To qualify for this type of
- registration, make a constructive suggestion for an
- enhancement to MAP (or, heaven forbid, report a bug).
