- GENERAL
- INFORMATION: Problems have been reported running NE2000 cards in NEC
- machines and getting a DMA failure. Two problems existed.
- First was the revision of the NE2000 itself. The cards were
- changed so that all cards were the same revision and had the
- same static RAM chips which helped, but did not solve the
- problem.
-
- The second part was that NEC machines, when multiple LAN
- cards are present, cause BUS noise that will cause cards to
- fail unless the cards have a chip to filter the noise out.
- The options in this case were to swap the brand of card or
- to swap machines. The servers were changed from NEC to
- Austin (7 servers) and the problems went away. This may not
- be the only brand of server that causes this type of
- problem.
