- Subject: Windows 3.0 Not Printing File
- Date: August 8, 1990
- Shell Version: 3.01

-
- GENERAL
- INFORMATION: This problem is common through all versions NetWare,
- topology and hardware. The only common element is Windows
- 3.0 in enhanced 386 mode.
-
- PROBLEM: When in an application (eg. WRITE), a test print is run
- but the file never gets printed. After exiting Windows
- and checking the relevent queue in PCONSOLE, the file is
- there, waiting to be printed and has grown from 1K to
- between 10 and 120K.
-
- SOLUTION: Edit the WIN.INI file below the LPT1= line and insert:
-
- RPT1.PRN=
-
- Save and exit. Reload Windows, go into the configuration,
- and reselect the print output to go to RPT1.PRN instead of
- LPT1. This way the file is sent to DOS and printed in the
- normal way, instead of the printing being handled by
- Windows. This has been recommended to several sites and
- seems to work well.
-
- If you enter:
-
- RPT1.PRN:=
-
- the additional colon causes the file to be written to disk
- as a *.PRN file and not output to the printer.
