- GENERAL
- INFORMATION: In the July 23 issue of Network World there was an article
- about a new strain of the Jerusalem virus that was
- allegedly written specifically to bypass NetWare security.
-
- Upon receiving the article here, we immediately called
- virus detection group to see if they had heard anything
- about it and whether they had a detector and/or cure.
-
- It's the standard Jerusalem-B virus that appeared in
- September 1987 or so. SCAN and CLEAN will detect and
- remove it respectively. Someone panicked and thought
- it was a new virus.
-
- The Jerusalem virus and its many variants are the most
- prolific and widely found viruses, but even they cannot
- break down NetWare security. Logging in as Supervisor
- will cause a virus to proliferate because of the
- Supervisor's rights, but the average user can only
- affect their own files, not the entire network.
-
- There is no virus that can (as yet) bypass NetWare
- security.
