- Subject: Installing NASI Application on NetWare 386
- Date: July 19, 1990
- OS Version: NetWare 386 3.01 (In house version)
- This shouldn't be relevant - same happens on 3.0
- Revision: 3.0, 3.01
- Shell Version: Any. Tested with 3.01

-
- PROBLEM: Installing NASI applications on a v2.15 (or earlier) server
- works fine. However, on a 386 server, the INSTALL.BAT
- program always returns an error that the installation disk
- is damaged.
-
- SOLUTION: Don't use INSTALL.BAT. This batch file issues the command
- INSTAPPS FIRSTTIME, which forces the INSTAPPS.EXE to use a
- special installation script called FIRSTTIM.INS. This name
- seems to be hard coded into INSTAPPS and, incidentally, must
- be entered in upper case. Typing INSTAPPS FIRSTTIME by hand
- makes no difference.
-
- The FIRSTTIME.INS file just copies the installation programs
- into the SYS:NASIAPPS directory which is created by INSTAPPS
- before the .INS file is processed. This directory is hard
- coded also - you can't choose another volume or directory!
-
- Therefore the solution is this :
-
- 1) LOGIN as Supervisor (not an equivalent - this is hard
- coded, too)
- 2) Create SYS:NASIAPPS
- 3) Copy the installation diskette's contents into NASIAPPS
- 4) Run INSTAPPS
- 5) Install applications and users as described in the manual
- (or just follow the prompts - it's a C-Worthy interface)
-
- COMMENTS: We hope they rewrite all the hard coded stuff in INSTAPPS.
