  1. Subject:      Shell Quirk Getting Garbage Displayed Before Attaching

  5. PROBLEM:      There is a little problem that some users have reported and
  6.               that we have seen here in the lab.  Sometimes, when loading
  7.               the shell, you will get garbage displayed on the screen.  It
  8.               will finish executing and print out on the last line that you
  9.               are attached to server <name>.  You can login and everything
  10.               else works fine.

  12.               We have seen this in the lab using many different network
  13.               configurations and different O.S. versions.  It does make
  14.               users nervous, but so far we haven't seen it cause any other
  15.               problems.

  17.               The only possible explanation we have is that some kind of
  18.               interference gets through the network and gets displayed on
  19.               the screen.  Replacing the cable doesn't appear to solve the
  20.               problem, it merely goes away with time.

  22.               We would like to report a conclusive answer but we haven't
  23.               found one yet.  If anyone else has seen this and knows of a
  24.               possible solution, let us know.
