- PROBLEM: NetWare OS Has Stepped On the Bad Block Table But It Has Been
- Rebuilt
- PROGRAM_NAME= COMPSURF.I
- NETWARE_VERSION= V2.0A
- NETWARE_LEVEL= ADVANCED
- TYPE_OF_LAN= S/Net
-
- This error message is generated when a disk has been
- COMPSURFed and installed on an Intel based server, and then
- COMPSURFed with the 68000 based utility.
-
- The message is very misleading. When this message is
- generated, the bad block table has NOT been 'stepped on', but
- it has already been converted from LOW-HIGH (Intel) format
- to HIGH-LOW (Motorola) format.
-
- Sectors 20 and 21 contain auxiliary information about the bad
- blocks on the disk (such as why and when the block was marked
- bad). This is the information that has been 'stepped on',
- and is what the error message is referring to. This is NOT
- a serious problem and the drive should in most cases perform
- satisfactorily.
-
- STATUS= VERIFIED
-
- TIC_Notes= In the next major release (following v2.0a), all
- conversion of disk formats, bad block considerations, etc.,
- will be handled by the disk and installation utilities and
- should be completely transparent to the user.
