  9. INFORMATION:   The new trn050 drivers on NetWire are causing quite a stir.
  10. One of the biggest problems is that the old and the new drivers don't exist
  11. nicely together.  So customers must change everything over at once.  Large
  12. customers are hesitant to do this, and in some cases this is very difficult
  13. if not impossible.  They can update one ring at a time if they are
  14. separated by our bridges and the whole ring is the new drivers.  If the
  15. rings are connected with IBM bridges, then you would need to not run source
  16. routing or filter out IPX packets.

  18.                We will assist customers in the change-over by helping them
  19. gen their 286 software without downing the server and copying the NET$OS
  20. to the system directory and then the next time they boot, the new drivers
  21. will be there.  If they mix old and new, they will get problems with
  22. fileservers disappearing and locking up, and workstations locking up, etc.

  24.                Another problem is when they have both IBM and Novell
  25. bridges on their network.  If they are using any source routing drivers on
  26. any other server or bridge on the network they will have problems.  They
  27. will see the same network communication errors as above.  You cannot run
  28. both bridges with source routing.  You must either run IBM only or Novell
  29. only.
