- GENERAL
- INFORMATION: The new trn050 drivers on NetWire are causing quite a stir.
- One of the biggest problems is that the old and the new drivers don't exist
- nicely together. So customers must change everything over at once. Large
- customers are hesitant to do this, and in some cases this is very difficult
- if not impossible. They can update one ring at a time if they are
- separated by our bridges and the whole ring is the new drivers. If the
- rings are connected with IBM bridges, then you would need to not run source
- routing or filter out IPX packets.
-
- We will assist customers in the change-over by helping them
- gen their 286 software without downing the server and copying the NET$OS
- to the system directory and then the next time they boot, the new drivers
- will be there. If they mix old and new, they will get problems with
- fileservers disappearing and locking up, and workstations locking up, etc.
-
- Another problem is when they have both IBM and Novell
- bridges on their network. If they are using any source routing drivers on
- any other server or bridge on the network they will have problems. They
- will see the same network communication errors as above. You cannot run
- both bridges with source routing. You must either run IBM only or Novell
- only.
