- SUBJECT : Retaining Local Paths Addendum (ref. FYI # 050890ge)
- DATE : 5/14/90
- FYI # : 051590dc
- OS VERSION : 286 and 386
-
- GENERAL INFORMATION : Regarding the "Optional Comments section of the
- previous FYI.
-
- PROBLEM : Regarding the use of the MAP command and retaining
- local paths the following statement was made:
-
- "There is one exception to this process. If you are using DOS
- 4.X with 286 NetWare then using either MAP S16: or MAP INS S1:
- will still overwrite your path. A possible work-around is to
- use the 386 MAP utility on your 286 network."
-
- No work around is needed to use DOS 4.X. The problem is with
- how you issue your PATH command. Ensure that you are using
- correct syntax when your Path command is issued and all will
- work fine. One example of syntax that causes the MAP command
- to fail when using DOS 4.X is:
- SET PATH=[paths]
- "SET" should be left out of the statement as follows:
- PATH=[paths]
- This syntax works properly in conjunction with the MAP
- command.
-
-
- SOLUTION : Use the MAP INS S1: and the MAP S16: as explained in
- the previous FYI. It will work with DOS 4.X as well.
