- Subject: Directory Entries (NetWare 286 and 386)
- Date: September 17, 1990
-
- GENERAL
- INFORMATION: A "directory entry" (NetWare 286 or 386) can be a directory
- name, subdirectory name, filename or trustee list. The
- default number of directory entries is 4 blocks plus 1 block
- for every 2MB of volume size.
-
- Example: 40MB hard drive = 20 + 4 = 24 blocks
-
- A directory entry is 32 bytes long. The default block size
- is 4096 bytes. Therefore, there are 128 directory entries
- per block (4096 / 32 = 128).
-
- Example (continued):
-
- 24 blocks * 128 entries per block = 3072 default entries.
-
- WARNING: Reducing directory entries on a drive can cause
- data loss.
