  6. INFORMATION:   DIRSTAMP.SYS is a hidden file that resides in the root     
  7.                directory of volume SYS.  It contains information about file
  8.                ownership and drive ID.  If it is deleted, the file
  9.                ownership field will be blank.  If this file does not exist
  10.                when you load the operating system, it creates the file. 
  11.  
  12.                The problem occurs when you create the ID.  The ID is
  13.                different than the SYS vol should be.  If you use Novell
  14.                BACKUP and RESTORE, the backup works fine and will backup
  15.                the data just fine.  If you need to restore a file or
  16.                directory, it will restore.  But if you have to restore the
  17.                whole volume, it will come back with wrong volume ID and
  18.                will not restore because it read the ID in the DIRSTAMP.SYS
  19.                on the volume and compared it to the ID in DIRSTAMP.SYS on
  20.                the tape and they were different.
