- GENERAL
- INFORMATION: DIRSTAMP.SYS is a hidden file that resides in the root
- directory of volume SYS. It contains information about file
- ownership and drive ID. If it is deleted, the file
- ownership field will be blank. If this file does not exist
- when you load the operating system, it creates the file.
-
- The problem occurs when you create the ID. The ID is
- different than the SYS vol should be. If you use Novell
- BACKUP and RESTORE, the backup works fine and will backup
- the data just fine. If you need to restore a file or
- directory, it will restore. But if you have to restore the
- whole volume, it will come back with wrong volume ID and
- will not restore because it read the ID in the DIRSTAMP.SYS
- on the volume and compared it to the ID in DIRSTAMP.SYS on
- the tape and they were different.
