- Subject: RPRINTER Scrambling Words

-
- PROBLEM: When using RPRINTER a sentence like "Scott went to
- school" the customer would get "went school to Scott." It
- would scramble entire words and not just characters. They
- had five ALR 25/386 DT machines and RPRINTER had the problem
- on all of them.
-
- SOLUTION: The customer added a second card (didn't get the brand name)
- to the machine and told it to be LPT2 using INT 5 to make
- sure it would not conflict with the LPT on the controller
- and the RPRINTER problems went away.
-
- COMMENTS: Interrupt conflicts and possible compatibility problems with
- the port in the machine cause a lot of the problems. This
- machine has a parallel and serial port on the floppy
- controller. DOS uses polling and RPRINTER uses interrupts.
- A lot of manufacturers do not use interrupts on their ports
- which can cause a lot of problems with printing. (Remote
- printing has to have hard interrupts on the port.)
