-
- PROBLEM: A customer was using IBM Token-Ring and Proteon wire centers
- with twisted pair. When he would add a workstation to the
- ring (making it an even number of workstations), the other
- workstations would get slow response from the file server or
- would loose connection to the network.
-
- SOLUTION: Token-Ring must have six or more twists per foot for the
- twisted pair wire. They found out that the wire between
- workstations and wire centers had only two twists per foot.
- They replaced the cable and the network now works fine.
-
- This points out something. Not every brand of cable that
- says it is IBM type 1, 2, or 3 is truly compatible. IBM has
- some very stringent specifications and the AT&T premis
- distribution specifications for type 3 are even more
- stringent.
