  14.     A.  ASW1440.DSK PRODUCT FEATURES

  16.         -  The driver is fully Novell certified.
  17.  
  18.         -  The driver is compatible with the AHA-1540 (AT), AHA-154xA,
  19.            AHA-154xB, and the AHA-1640 (PS2).

  21.         -  The driver supports up to four host adapters for the AHA-1540
  22.            (max. of 28 drives) and up to six for the AHA-1640 (max. of 42
  23.            drives).

  25.         -  The driver is reentrant.  This means that only one driver will be
  26.            in memory to control multiple host adapters rather than having a
  27.            copy of the driver for each one.

  30.            new devices it finds.  There is no user interaction required.

  40.            tape drive, disk drive, magneto-optical drive, and SCSI printer
  41.            all attached to the same host adapter.

  81. 2.  NETWARE SETUP STEPS
  82.  
  83.     A.  Configuring the host adapter.
  84.  
  85.         Please consult the installation guide that came with your host
  86.         adapter on how to configure the host adapter.  If installing
  87.         multiple host adapters, please make sure each host adapter has
  88.         a unique port address, unique DMA channel, and unique interrupt
  89.         level.  Also, the BIOS should only be enabled on your "boot" host
  90.         adapter.  It should be disabled for the rest.  Each host adapter
  91.         should also have its own SCSI bus to avoid conflict.  For example,
  92.         no two host adapters should be connected to the same SCSI cable.

  94.     B.  Installing the driver files for the card.
  95.  
  96.         You can load the driver from either your internal hard disk or from
  97.         a floppy.  From the NetWare 386 console, you would type:
  98.  
  99.         :load [path] asw1440 [parameters] <Enter>
  100.  
  101.         The path is optional.  The next section describes in further detail
  102.         how to load and configure the driver.
  103.  
  104.     C.  Loading and configuring the driver.
  105.  
  106.         Installing the disk driver into NetWare 386 requires use of the LOAD
  107.         console command.  The driver will need to be loaded for each host
  108.         adapter in the system.  For example, if you have three host adapters,
  109.         you will need to load the driver three times.  Since this driver is
  110.         reentrant, only one image of the driver will remain in memory.
  111.  
  112.         When you load the driver, you need to specify for which host adapter
  113.         you are loading the driver.  For an AHA-1540, you do this with the
  114.         "port=xxx" command line option (i.e. load asw1440 port=330).  The
  115.         driver will read the interrupt level and DMA channel from the host
  116.         adapter and pass this information to the NetWare operating system.
  117.  
  118.         For the AHA-1640, select the host adapter with the "slot=x" command
  119.         line option (i.e. load asw1440 slot=3).  The driver will read the
  120.         port address, interrupt level, and DMA arbitration level from the
  121.         POS registers and pass this information to NetWare.
  122.  
  123.         If you do not specify the "port" or "slot" setting, you will be
  124.         prompted for one.
  125.  
  126.         NetWare will determine if loading the driver will cause any conflicts
  127.         (i.e. two host adapters at DMA 5).  If there is a possibility for a
  128.         conflict, the driver will not load.

  145.     NetWare 386 v3.1 was designed to be compatible with NetWare 386 v3.0 disk
  146.     drivers.  In our testing, we have found no compatibility problems with
  147.     the ASW1440.DSK v1.0 running under NetWare 386 v3.1.

  149.     Due to our commitment to the NetWare community, we are currently in the
  150.     process of preparing a NetWare 386 v3.1 specific driver for the AHA-154x
  151.     and the AHA-1640.  Some of the enhanced features and changes over this
  152.     driver will be:

  154.     -  Full support for removable media (512 bytes/sector), including
  155.        magneto-optical drives.

  157.     -  Easier AHA-1640 installation.

  172. 6.  COMMAND LINE OPTIONS:
  173.  
  174.     For those of you who wish to "tune" your host adapter, the driver
  175.     supports the following command line options:
  176.

  197.     bus_on =        2-15     154x      This option sets the host adapter's
  198.                                        bus-on time in microseconds.  If this
  199.                                        option is not chosen, the default
  200.                                        value of 11 usec will be used.

  202.     bus_off =       1-64     154x      This option sets the host adapter's
  203.                                        bus-off time in microseconds.  If this
  204.                                        option is not chosen, the default
  205.                                        value of 4 usec will be used.

  207.     slot =          1-8      1640      This option selects the host adapter's
  208.                                        slot location.  If none is given, the
  209.                                        user will be prompted for one.

  211.     verbose =        y     154x/1640   With this option, the driver will
  212.                                        display host adapter configuration
  213.                                        information during load time.

  215.     removable =     off    154x/1640   This option disables support for
  216.                                        removable media.  By default removable
  217.                                        media is supported.  A user may want
  218.                                        to disable "removable" disk support
  219.                                        in order to load their own ASPI
  220.                                        Removable Disk Module.  The driver
  221.                                        only supports media with 512 bytes/
  222.                                        sector.

  224.     fixed_disk =    off    154x/1640   This option disables support for fixed
  225.                                        disk drives.  By default, fixed disk
  226.                                        drives are supported.  A user may want
  227.                                        to disable "fixed" disk support in
  228.                                        order to load their own ASPI Fixed
