The popularity of Ven-Tel modems in the bbs world is growing daily! Ven-Tel is a leader in technical support of their modems, and is pleased to be able to offer users a listing of proper default settings for use when connecting to Exec-PC's BBS.
In addition to a five-year warranty (unmatched in the industry), Ven-Tel also offers its own technical support BBS for end-users and distributors. For further information, please call the Ven-Tel BBS (T I P S) at (408) 922-0988 or (408) 922-0989, 24 hours a day, 8-N-1, 9600 bps max. v.32.
General Information
-------------------
Exec-PC supports two phone lines. Both lines support RTS/CTS hardware handshaking, and XON/XOFF is not recommended. Line 2 operates at a max bps rate of 9600 and supports v.32 & HST protocols as well as being v.42 capable. As of this writing, MNP levels through level 4 are available and plans to implement MNP level 5 are underway. When using an error correcting modem, care should be taken to assure that it is set in auto-reliable mode so that a connection can be established even though compression may not be available.
When calling with an error correcting modem locked into XON/XOFF flow control, up/download errors or aborts may result. The following information is provided to allow a smooth transfer and maximum throughput for your Ven-Tel modem.
9600 Plus/9600 Plus II - EC9600/EC9600II/PCM-96
-----------------------------------------------
AT &F \Q3 %C0 %F2 \N3 &Wn
Sets modem to factory defaults, then selects CTS/RTS hardware
handshaking, auto-reliable mode for error-correction.
Writes to NVRAM (where n is the mode) for default setting.
Change other registers as required by your terminal
software.
2400 Baud with Error Correction - PCM-2400E/EC2400-33/MCM-24E
Selects CTS/RTS hardware handshaking, auto-reliable mode for
error-correction. Writes to NVRAM for default setting.
NOTE: At publication date, Exec-PC expressed plans to implement MNP level 5 error correction. When MNP 5 is available, change %C0 setting to %C1.
Internal Macintosh II Modem - MAC2400E
--------------------------------------
AT \Q3 \N3 &W
Sets up for an error-corrected call (v.42 compatible) and
writes to NVRAM.
NOTE: If you experience difficulties up/downloading, set up your configuration file to disable XOn/XOff (allow hardware handshake).
FINALLY...
