  2. The manual describes the construction of a serial interface cable in
  3. Appendix A.  This cable will ONLY work reliably if the PostScript
  4. printer is configured for XON/XOFF flow control handshaking.  If your
  5. printer uses hardware (DTR) flow control, it will NOT work.  (The
  6. symptoms will be lost pages in large print jobs.)  Either reconfigure
  7. your printer for XON/XOFF handshaking or use a normal null-modem cable
  8. with pins 2/3/7/6/8/20 all used.

  10. THIS IS NOT A NETWORK VERSION!!
  11. The network version is still being tested.  Consequently, you have to
  12. be careful how you run PSFX on a network.  Some features may not work
  13. as usual.
  14. To use PSFX on an IBM Token Ring, run it with the following commands:
  15.      NET USE LPT2: \printername
  16.      PSFX LPT2:
  17. Do not attempt to substitute LPT1: -- the system will behave as though
  18. you did not run PSFX.
  19. The shift-PrtSc key will not work at all on a Token Ring; IBM disables it.

  21. If you are using PSFX with the printer directly connected to your PC via
  22. a parallel port (no LAN connection), you probably want to specify the Direct
  23. option. Unless you specify Direct, you cannot use the shift-PrtSc key.
  24. It is disabled. If the printer is connected via a serial connection, Direct
  25. is automatically assumed.
  26. Do NOT specify DIRECT with an IBM Token Ring!

  28. If you want to use the shift-PrtSc key for illustrating manuals or anything
  29. else which requires the IBM graphics character set, you need the special
  30. graphics characters. Many programs use them to make boxes and other special
  31. displays.  An Epson FX-85 prints them as italic characters. To print them
  32. as they appear on the screen, you can use PRTSCFX.COM.  This is a useful
  33. public domain utility which is included on this disk.  PRTSCFX.DOC is a
  34. brief summary of how to use it.  Load PSFX.EXE before PRTSCFX.COM.  For
  35. a graphics mode dump (G option in PRTSCFX), you must wait for the 30 second
  36. PSFX timeout before the page prints.  There is no need to use the D option
  37. in PRTSCFX.
