- Adding ESF Soft Fonts to Your WP 5.1 Driver
-
- Enclosed is a master LaserJet font definition file for Word Perfect 5.1 and
- ESF soft fonts. Do NOT use this font definition file by itself! You must follow
- the directions below to add these soft font definitions to your standard
- printer driver. There are three basic steps: move fonts from our driver to
- yours, activate the fonts in your driver, re-install the modified driver.
-
-
- Step 1
-
- If you do not already have a separate subdirectory for soft fonts, now is
- the time to create one. It is MUCH less confusing to hide all soft fonts in a
- single subdirectory. Do not place them in the WP 5.1 subdirectory, as you
- will end up with a giagantic number of files there. REMEMBER the name of this
- subdirectory, you will need it later.
-
- Now copy ALL the Elfring Soft Font files you own to this subdirectory. Our
- soft fonts for the LaserJet typically end in the extension ".USP". Some
- other soft fonts may use the ".SFP" or ".R8P" file name extensions. In any
- case, make sure that all soft fonts from all disks you have purchased are
- copied to your new soft font subdirectory.
-
-
- Step 2
-
- Switch to your Word Perfect 5.1 subdirectory. Copy the ESFLASER.ALL file
- to this subdirectory. Locate the name of the ALL file you currently use
- for your printer. (Probably WPRINT1.ALL)
-
-
- Step 3
-
- You are now going to use the PTR.EXE program that comes with Word Perfect 5.1
- to move ESF soft font definitions from our ".ALL" file to yours. Type:
-
- PTR ESFLASER.ALL
-
- Highlight "ESF LaserJet Font Definitions" and then press <enter>
- Highlight "Fonts" from the menu and press <enter>
- Highlight the font library:
- "ESF LaserJet Fonts" or "KeyCaps" and press "4 Copy"
-
- The PTR program will now ask for the name of the ".ALL" file you wish to copy
- fonts to. This is the name of the ALL file you originally installed, probably
- WPRINT1.ALL or something similar. Enter the file name and press <enter>.
-
- The program will now move the ESF font definitions into your ".ALL" file. This
- may take a few minutes.
-
- Once the copy process is finished, exit from PTR by pressing <F7> <F7> <F7> N Y
-
-
- Step 4
-
- Your ".ALL" file now contains the ESF soft font definitions, but they are
- not active or installed. To activate the font definitions you need to run
- the PTR program again. This time we are using PTR to modify YOUR ".ALL"
- file. So type PTR followed by the name of your ".ALL" file.
-
- PTR WPRINT1.ALL
-
- Now highlight your printer name, press <enter>
- Highlight "fonts", press <enter>
- Move down (highlight) "ESF LaserJet Fonts", mark it with the "*" key
- Exit from PTR and save the modified ".ALL" file.
- (<F7> <F7> <F7>
- "Save file?" Y - then use the same name or give it a new one
- "Exit?" Y)
-
-
- Step 5
-
- Refer back to your Word Perfect 5.1 documentation and re-install the modified
- ".ALL" printer driver. (You mark fonts with the "*" or "+" and create a ".PRS"
- file.)
-
-
-
- Note1:
-
- All Elfring Soft Font names include the letters (ESF). (This stands for
- Elfring Soft Fonts). The font name also includes the point size of the font.
- Fixed width fonts have a special naming convention so that you can recognize
- them. A proportional font might be called:
-
- (ESF) Roman 12 pt. PS
- (ESF) Broadway Bold 24 pt. PS
-
- Note that the letters "PS" stand for a proportionally spaced font. When you
- want to use a fixed width font you select a font name that tells you the
- point size and the pitch of the font, since you can have more than one font
- with the same height but with a different pitch. So a 10 pitch fixed width
- Roman font 12 points in height would be named:
-
- (ESF) Gothic 12 pt. 10 pitch
- (ESF) Square 12 pt. 12 pitch
-
- Finally, some fonts with line draw (Letter Gothic & Prestige Elite) require
- a special font name. Thus the letters (LD) have been added to the font name
- to indicate this font has Line Draw. In the example below the first font
- has the line draw characters and the second does not have them.
-
- (ESF) Letter Gothic 12 pt. 10 pitch (LD)
- (ESF) Letter Gothic 12 pt. 10 pitch
