- Using Soft Fonts With WP 5.0
-
- Enclosed is a new master printer definition file for Word Perfect and the
- DeskJet printer, ESFLASER.ALL (Elfring Soft Fonts LaserJet). The Word Perfect
- program must be correctly installed with all utility programs present. This
- document assumes you are working with a hard disk! (It is probably not
- possible to use soft fonts with WP 5.0 and floppy disks.)
-
-
- Step 1
-
- Create a subdirectory to put your soft fonts in. It is MUCH less confusing to
- hide all soft fonts in a single subdirectory. Do not place them in the WP 5.0
- subdirectory, as you will end up with a giagantic number of files there.
- REMEMBER the name of this subdirectory, you will need it later.
-
- Now copy ALL the Elfring Soft Font files you own to this new subdirectory.
- Our soft fonts for the LaserJet typically end in the extension ".USP". Some
- other soft fonts may use the ".SFP" or ".R8P" file name extensions. In any
- case, make sure that all soft fonts from all disks you have purchased are
- copied to your new soft font subdirectory.
-
-
- Step 2
-
- Start Word Perfect and enter <Shift><F7> for the printer menu. Press <S>
- for the Select Printer menu. This displays a list of printer drivers currently
- installed. Now press <A> for additional printers. Use the arrow keys to
- highlight the "ESF LaserJet Series II" name, then press <S> for select. Word
- Perfect will now tell you the name of the new ".PRS" file it is going to create.
- (If you already have a file by this name WP will ask if you want to replace it.)
- Now press Exit <F7>.
-
-
- Step 3
-
- You are now at the Edit screen for select printers. Press <5> to select
- "Cartridges and Fonts". Use the down arrow key to move from the first line
- of the next screen (Internal Fonts) to Memory line. You will now see a list
- of all soft fonts available for the LaserJet. Use the down arrow key to move
- the cursor to each Elfring Soft Font you own and press the "+" key. Note
- that all Elfring Soft Font definition lines include the letters (ESF). Also
- mark any other soft fonts or cartridges you may own. Finally, press <F7>
- twice to return to the Edit Printer screen. (WP will pause as it creates a
- new ".PRS" file. Now press <6> or <I> for Initial font. Go through the
- list of fonts presented here and pick a default soft font base size. When
- the font is highlighted press the <S> key to Select it. Exit from here with
- the <F7> key. Press <7> or <D> to specify the disk drive and directory name
- for your downloadable fonts. Now press <F7> three times to exit from these
- menus.
-
-
- Step 4
-
- From within your document Ctrl-F8 brings up the font menu. This menu lets you
- select the font to use. Word Perfect should automatically download any fonts
- you use in a document.
-
-
- Note1:
-
- All Elfring Soft Font names include the letters (ESF). (This stands for
- Elfring Soft Fonts). The font name also includes the point size of the font.
- Fixed width fonts have a special naming convention so that you can recognize
- them. A proportional font might be called:
-
- (ESF) Roman 12 pt. PS
- (ESF) Broadway Bold 24 pt. PS
-
- Note that the letters "PS" stand for a proportionally spaced font. When you
- want to use a fixed width font you select a font name that tells you the
- point size and the pitch of the font, since you can have more than one font
- with the same height but with a different pitch. So a 10 pitch fixed width
- Roman font 12 points in height would be named:
-
- (ESF) Gothic 12 pt. 10 pitch
- (ESF) Square 12 pt. 12 pitch
-
- Finally, some fonts with line draw (Letter Gothic & Prestige Elite) require
- a special font name. Thus the letters (LD) have been added to the font name
- to indicate this font has Line Draw. In the example below the first font
- has the line draw characters and the second does not have them.
-
- (ESF) Letter Gothic 12 pt. 10 pitch (LD)
- (ESF) Letter Gothic 12 pt. 10 pitch
