- A Word About Word.............
-
- Word 4.0 requires matching ".DAT" and a ".PRD" printer driver files.
- The ".PRD" file tells Word what fonts and faces are available, and gives
- the width of each character in all proportionally spaced fonts. The ".DAT"
- file tells Word how to download the soft fonts to a LaserJet printer. Both
- files must be resident to let Word automatically download soft fonts for
- you.
-
- Please note the ".PRD" and ".DAT" printer driver files on this disk. They
- have slightly different file names. The names are of the form XXXXX_?.YYY,
- where: XXXXX is the name of the font, ? is an "L" for landscape or a "P" for
- portrait, and YYY is the ".PRD" or ".DAT" file name extension. Thus, the
- Century Legal family drivers are:
-
- cen_p.prd \portrait printer drivers
- cen_p.dat /
-
- Word 4.0 now comes with a new utility called MERGEPRD. This program lets
- you combine printer drivers. With it you can add printer drivers for fonts
- purchased from me to drivers you obtained from other sources. This lets you
- use your fonts in any way you please. MERGEPRD requires both the ".DAT"
- and the ".PRD" files to work correctly.
-
- NOTE: if you merge my ".PRD" files with ones obtained from other sources
- you may run into a MERGEPRD message indicating that two fonts are exactly
- the same, when you know they are really different. This is an easy problem
- to correct but does require changing both the ".PRD" and the ".DAT" files.
