  15.      The WD1006-WAH controller is designed to interface with up to two 
  16.      Winchester ST506/ST412 hard disk drives in an IBM PC AT or compatible 
  17.      system and will support drives with up to 16 read/write heads and 
  18.      2048 cylinders.  Each drive may be a different configuration.  The 
  19.      advanced design of the WD1006-WAH implements the controllers most 
  20.      significant feature, 1:1 interleave.

  22.      The WD1006-WAH Feature 001 (F001) offers cacheing firmware, no wait 
  23.      state generator.
  24.      
  25.      Installation of the controller requires three steps:  1) verifying 
  26.      jumper settings; 2) installing into the host computer; 3) formatting 
  27.      the hard disk drives.  To complete installation, you will need the 
  28.      following:
  29.      
  30.      Two hard disk cables (3 if using 2 hard disk drives); Winchester hard 
  31.      disk drive; screwdriver; MSDOS Version 2.0 or later; IBM Advanced 
  32.      Diagnostic diskette (or similar program for IBM compatibles); FDISK 
  33.      and Format utility (normally included with MSDOS).

  38.                  HANDLE THE CONTROLLER BY THE ENDS OF THE BOARD
  39.                 SOME OF THE CHIPS ARE STATIC SENSITIVE AND DAMAGE

  42.      Before you can install your WD1006-WAH, you will need to be certain 
  43.      that the jumpers (small shorting plugs) are correctly set.  Refer to 
  44.      Table 1 for correct jumper settings.  Modification of factory jumper 
  45.      settings is rarely necessary.  Modify jumpers only under the 
  46.      direction of a qualified individual; i.e. your dealer.

  134.                               Hardware Installation

  137.                         MAKE SURE COMPUTER IS TURNED OFF
  138.                             AND POWER IS DISCONNECTED
  139.      
  140.      1.  Verify that your host computer has a 135 watt power supply.  If 
  141.      the disk drive(s) is(are) being installed internally, it is best to 
  142.      locate the controller in the nearest available expansion slot to the 
  143.      drive.
  144.      
  145.      2.  Remove the blank expansion slot bracket.  Put the bracket away 
  146.      and save it for possible future use.  The screw will be used to hold 
  147.      the new controller in place.
  148.      
  149.      3.  The terminating resistor must be present only on the last hard 
  150.      disk drive connected.  If there are two drives, the terminating 
  151.      resistor must be present on the second drive.  Verify proper setting 
  152.      of drive select switches for drive select 1 or 2. Refer to your 
  153.      system owner's manual for information about proper drive termination 
  154.      and select switches.  DO NOT USE RADIAL SELECT OPTION.

  156.      4.  Attach 34-pin control connector to J4 on the controller board.  
  157.      Make sure that Pin 1 of the cable connector goes to Pin 1 on the 
  158.      controller board.  Pin 1 of the cable connector is typically located 
  159.      on the color coded side of the cable.

  161.      5.   Connect control cable to drive.
  162.      
  163.      6.   Attach 20-pin data connector to J3 (Drive C or 0).
  164.      
  165.      7.   Attach 20-pin data connector to J2 (Drive D or 1).
  166.      
  167.      8.   Connect data cables to drives.
  168.      
  169.      9.   Attach Winchester activity LED connector to J1.  J1 is a 
  170.      reversible connector.

  172.      10.  Install controller board into the expansion slot. Make sure that 
  173.      the board is seated properly by pressing down on both ends of the 
  174.      board.  Secure the board with the bracket screw.

  176.                                      CAUTION
  177.                   WHEN ROUTING CABLES, BE CAREFUL NOT TO PINCH
  178.                   THEM.  CABLES MUST NOT GET CAUGHT BETWEEN THE
  179.                  COVER AND THE BOARDS, NOR SHOULD THEY OBSTRUCT
  180.                       ANY AIR FLOW PATH FROM FANS OR VENTS.
