  12.      The WD1003-WA2 controller is designed to interface with up to two 
  13.      Winchester ST506/ST412 hard disk drives and up to two floppy disk 
  14.      drives in an IBM PC AT or compatible system and will support drives 
  15.      with up to 16 read/write heads and 2048 cylinders.  Each drive may be 
  16.      a different configuration.

  18.      The WD1003-WA2 can operate in computer systems with bus speeds up to 
  19.      8MHz.  The WD1003-WA2 REV E044 can operate in systems with bus speeds 
  20.      up to 12MHz.  If you do not know your system's bus speed, contact 
  21.      your system manufacturer.  Bus speed and clock speed are not the same 
  22.      number.

  24.      Installation of the controller requires three steps:  1) verifying 
  25.      jumper settings; 2) installing into the host computer; 3) formatting 
  26.      the hard disk drives.  To complete installation, you will need the 
  27.      following:
  28.      
  29.      Two hard disk cables (3 if using 2 hard disk drives); one 34 pin 
  30.      floppy drive cable (a daisy chain type cable if using two floppy disk 
  31.      drives); Winchester hard disk drive; floppy disk drive; screwdriver; 
  32.      MSDOS Version 2.0 or later; IBM Advanced Diagnostic diskette (or 
  33.      similar program for IBM compatibles); System Diagnostic Diskette (or 
  34.      equivalent); FDISK and Format utility (normally included with MSDOS).

  39.                  HANDLE THE CONTROLLER BY THE ENDS OF THE BOARD
  40.                 SOME OF THE CHIPS ARE STATIC SENSITIVE AND DAMAGE

  43.      Before you can install your WD1003-WA2, you will need to be certain 
  44.      that the jumpers (small shorting plugs) are correctly set.  Refer to 
  45.      Table 1 for correct jumper settings.  Modification of factory jumper 
  46.      settings is rarely necessary.  Modify jumpers only under the 
  47.      direction of a qualified individual; i.e. your dealer.

  166.                                      WARNING
  167.                         MAKE SURE COMPUTER IS TURNED OFF
  168.                             AND POWER IS DISCONNECTED
  169.      
  170.      1.  Verify that your host computer has a 135 watt power supply.  If 
  171.      the disk drive(s) is(are) being installed internally, it is best to 
  172.      locate the controller in the nearest available expansion slot to the 
  173.      drive.

  175.      2.  Remove the blank expansion slot bracket.  Put the bracket away 
  176.      and save it for possible future use.  The screw will be used to hold 
  177.      the new controller in place.
  178.      
  179.      3.  The terminating resistor must be present only on the last hard 
  180.      disk drive connected.  If there are two drives, the terminating 
  181.      resistor must be present on the second drive.  Verify proper setting 
  182.      of drive select switches for drive select 1 or 2. Refer to your 
  183.      system owner's manual for information about proper drive termination 
  184.      and select switches.

  205.                       DISTINGUISH BETWEEN THE CABLE TYPES.

  207.      4.  Attach 34-pin control connector pin 1 to J5 on the controller 
  208.      board.  Make sure that Pin 1 of the cable connector goes to Pin 1 on 
  209.      the controller board.  Pin 1 of the cable connector is typically 
  210.      located on the color coded side of the cable.

  212.      5.   Connect control cable to drive.
  213.      
  214.      6.   Attach 20-pin data connector to J4 (Drive C or 1).
  215.      
  216.      7.   Attach 20-pin data connector to J3 (Drive D or 2).

  218.      8.   Connect data cables to drives.

  220.      9.   Attach 34-pin floppy cable connector to J1. Connect cable to 
  221.      floppy drive.

  223.      10.  Attach Winchester activity LED connector to J6.

  225.      11.  Install controller board into the expansion slot. Make sure that 
  226.      the board is seated properly by pressing down on both ends of the 
  227.      board.  Secure the board with the bracket screw.

  229.      12.  Remove or disable any other floppy controller in your system.

  232.                   WHEN ROUTING CABLES, BE CAREFUL NOT TO PINCH
  233.                   THEM.  CABLES MUST NOT GET CAUGHT BETWEEN THE
  234.                  COVER AND THE BOARDS, NOR SHOULD THEY OBSTRUCT
  235.                       ANY AIR FLOW PATH FROM FANS OR VENTS.
