- The program RI.EXE has been developed by Arthur C. Davies of
- DAVCOM. It is intended to permit users to list the hard drive
- parameter table located in the system BIOS of AT class machines.
- The program is provided to DAVCOM customers without warranty of any
- kind. DAVCOM does not assume any liability whatsoever, including
- that of suitability for any particular purpose; nor for any
- consequences resulting from its use.
-
- If, after reviewing the drive table listing, you cannot find a
- drive table entry that matches your drive(s), a custom upgrade that
- places your drive parameters into the drive table is available from
- DAVCOM. DAVCOM specializes in upgrading the drive table entries in
- any 286/386/486 machine that uses the IBM architectural method of
- defining drive types and their characteristics.
-
- The internal BIOS drive table can be listed only if the drive table
- in use is the original one located in the system BIOS. This
- precludes drives having a SCSI or ESDI interface unless done in the
- IBM standard manner where a BIOS drive table entry exists that
- matches the drive in use. It is still possible to see your
- original BIOS drive tables by temporarily preventing the hard disk
- extended BIOS from gaining control - thus leaving the original
- drive table in use. This is most easily accomplished by
- substituting a standard AT combination hard/floppy controller card
- with a hard drive attached, and running setup to select any drive
- whose heads and cylinders are equal to (or less than) the drive.
- This problem is a result of having violated the IBM architecture.
-
- In the event that the CMOS memory contains garbage, or does not
- have a valid drive set into its type field, run your SETUP program
- to establish a valid value and re-run the RI program with the now
- valid drive type information. This problem is caused by the fact
- that the IBM architecture defines the drive table information to be
- unavailable if there is no hard drive or a bad drive is sensed.
-
- The listing of the drive parameters may be re-directed by the
- standard ">" operator separating the command and file name. An
- example of the drive table listing being sent to a file called
- "DRVTBL" on the c: drive is as follows:- "RI > C:DRVTBL".
-
- A flier that describes the drive table upgrade process is available
- from DAVCOM, whose address, telephone, and facsimile number follow.
