- The Program and documentation are a copyright work. You may freely distribute
- unmodified copies of the program, but it must have this documetation with it.
- If you need a special version, contact me and I will see about making
- provisions.
-
- This is Version 4.0 of PCSYS. This started out to be just a simple program
- that would enable some friends and working collegues to know the basic
- configuration of their computers. It has grown from a few simple procedures
- to a few more simple procedures. I am in hopes that there is someone out
- there who can find this program of use.

- W A R R A N T Y
-
- The author is in NO WAY liable for any damage, whether direct or indirect,
- special, consequential, or otherwise arising from the use of this program by
- either normal or abusive use of this program. It is provided AS IS without
- any warranties, expressed or implied. This includes the fitfulness to a
- particular purpose, application or system.
-
- The author is also free of liability for any damage to data or property which
- may be caused directly or indirectly with the use of this program.
-
- This utility has grown from a small utility written in under an hour, to a nice
- utility that has taken more than 100 hours to fully debug and fix up.
- Unfortunately I feel that some compensation is now warranted. I am not going
- to ask people to send $20+, just a mere $5.00 to help support the Shareware
- program. If you would like the next release mailed to you, please send $10.00.
- This will provide you with the next released version (which will be able to
- edit the CONFIG.SYS and AUTOEXEC.BAT)and help pay for the cost of shipping,
- disks, etc. I am not a large corporation, so these little costs start adding up
- fast. I realize that this started out as freeware, but I never anticipated
- the responce I recieved.
-
- INSTALLATION
-
- To install the PCSYS onto your Hard Drive, copy the PCSYS.EXE into you DOS
- Utilities subdirectory (I.E. - COPY A:PCSYS.EXE C:\DOS\*.*). Once installed all
- you need to do to call up PCSYS is type PCSYS at ANY prompt (C:\, A:\, C:\WP,
- etc.)
-
- There has been a few features added since version 1.0. The following is a list
- all the items that have been added..
-
- Version 2.7
-
- 1) I have added a place to where the amount of RAM available to you for use with
- programs shows. You do not have to add the 63K that PCSYS takes up to get an
- accurate reading. I have already taken this into account for you.
-
- 2) I have added a third Printer Port window for those with LPT3:, let me know
- if anyone needs one for LPT4:
-
- 3) I have added a third window that shows:
- a) Your CPU Type - 8088, 80286, etc.
- b) Your Computer Type - XT, AT, etc.
- c) Your grachics Card - CGA, EGA (w/Mem), VGA
- d) EMS if available, how much and what version
- e) Extended Memory, if available and how much
-
- Please let me know if this has helped anyone by simply dropping me a note as
- to who you are and how it helped you. Also, if you have any ideas for future
- enhancements, or any bugs. I will respond to as many as I can. As for
- FLAMES, they are filed in a special area, the garbage can. As I am NOT doing
- this program for profit (It is FREEWARE, remember???) I have a special area for
- those that wish to send FLAME mail... The trash.
-
- Version 2.9
-
- Fixed a few minor bugs and problems.
-
- Verson 3.0
-
- I have changed the whole look of PCSYS by making it menu driven. Also, I have
- added a way that if your CPU type is not known to me, a way to let me know so
- that I can make future updates with your particular machine showing.
-
- I have also included a means of viewing COMSPEC, the AUTOEXEC.BAT, and
- CONFIG.SYS (all of this is taking for granted you boot off of your C: drive).
-
- 3.1
-
- I have added a routine that if your particular CPU Type or PCType does NOT show
- up, it will give you the codes for it. Sending me those codes and telling me
- what type of CPU and computer brand name, model, and anything that might help in
- future releases, will allow me to keep the program as up-to-date as possible.
-
-
- Also, I have fixed a small bug, where if you went into PCSYS 5+ times it would
- bomb out with an OUT OF STACK. This has been fixed.
-
- 3.2
-
- I have added a couple of Drive type IDs to properly identify the IBM model 80's
- 3½ high density drive.
-
- I have also added another PCTYPE id to help those with older clones identify it
- as an XT clone.
-
- 3.3
-
- I added another computer type.
-
- 3.4
-
- Fixed a mior bug.
-
- 3.5
-
- Fixed the program to show VGA.
-
- 3.6
-
- Added SPERRY and older Leading Edge computers to the PC Type.
-
- 3.7
-
- Finally fixed (For sure) the VGA problem. Also, added a routine to show that the
- AUTOEXEC.BAT and CONFIG.SYS aren't found if it can't find it in the ROOT directory
- of the C drive.
-
- 3.8 - 4.0
-
- Worked out problem with built in editor to edit AUTOEXEC.BAT and CONFIG.SYS
- There is built in HELP for the EDITOR. Use ALT-H.
-
-
-
- This program is designed to work with a hard drive, especially if you want to edit
- at your CONFIG.SYS or AUTOEXEC.BAT.
-
-
- ON ANOTHER NOTE
-
- I would like to thank the author of LOOKAT.BAS (UNKNOWN) for the routine that
- was found as uncopyrighted on a local BBS. This is the ONLY part of PCSYS that
- is uncopyrighted. As the author himself did not copyright it, I will not
- either. Anyone wishing the source code for that one routine can write to me,
- and I will get it to them. I would also like to thank Mr. Ford for his WP editor, and
- for allowing me to incorporate it in PCSYS. All other routines of PCSYS are copyright
- by me, Chris Anderson. The source code is not available, so please do not ask.
-
-
- If you find this program useful, and you use it, please help to support Shareware
- so that other utilities like this can be made and keep the Shareware concept
- alive. You can send the $15.00 contribution to :
-
- Chris Anderson
- 3409 Executive Center Dr.
- Suite 212
- Austin, Tx 78731
-
- I feel that a $15.00 contribution is not a lot to ask if you use the program, and it
- is a use to you.
-
- Commants can be made to me through the above address or by contacting me through
- EasyPlex via 73027,2650. I log on about once every 1 - 2 weeks, and I do answer
- my mail.
-
- I will do additional updates and make them availble to those who responded
- first, then I will UL it to as many BBSs as I can.
-
- You can also obtain the latest version by calling 1-512-343-7991 and logging
- onto my BBS at work. In answering the question "Why are you calling" tell me
- that you are wanting a copy of PCSYS (I will ALWAYS have the latest version
- there) and I will not drop your name from the users list (This BBS is
- specifically for Real Estate Appraisers).
-
- Thank you for your continued support,
- Chris Anderson
