  3. 1.) Make sure that there is a C:\SCSI subdirectory on the bootup hard
  4. drive.

  6. There should be at least these files in that directory:

  153. SOFTWARE SETUP

  156. 2.) First run SCSITEST which will test the hardware installation and
  157. integrity.  Run the TEST HARDWARE selection.  It should follow through
  158. several menus and alert you to any potential problems.
  159.  
  160. 3.) Next make sure that the following statements are the first and second
  161. lines in your CONFIG.SYS file in the root directory on your hard drive.
  162.  
  163. DEVICE=C:\SCSI\NECCDR.SYS /D:NECCD 
  164. LASTDRIVE=Z
  165.  
  166. 4.) Finally for standard setup be sure that the following statement is the
  167. first line in your AUTOEXEC.BAT file in the root directory on your hard 
  168. drive.
  169.  
  170. C:\SCSI\MSCDEX /D:NECCD /l:l
  171.  
  172. Your CD-ROM drive will now be setup as drive L.
  173. If everything is setup correctly this should rectify any problems.

  177. ERROR MESSAGES
  178. -------------------
  179.  
  180. If you encounter a CDR 101 error this is a designation that there is a 
  181. timing problem.  
  182.  
  183. 1.) Verify that the cable is secure at the PC and at the CD-Reader.
  184.  
  185. 2.) If you have the termination block in the back of the CDR77 or CDR72,
  186.     remove it.
  187.  
  188. 3.) If you do not have the termination block in the back of the CDR77 or 
  189.     CDR72, put it in.
  190.  
  191. 4.) Try placing the card in another bus slot in the PC.
  192.  
  193. 5.) If the machine is running in a TURBO mode, try a slower clock speed.
  194.  
  195. 6.) Make sure the CD-Rom is in right-side-up.
  196.  
  197. 7.)  Make sure the dip switch settings on the SCSI card are in the correct
  198. position.
  199.

  201. If you encounter a CDR 103 - Disk not High Sierra or ISO 9660 format error, 
  202. this is a designation that something in the system is overwriting the 
  203. memory map of the SCSI card.  The card should come with all dip switches in 
  204. the down position.  Refer to page 13 in the SCSI installation manual for 
  205. card memory map settings or see above switch settings.
  206.  
  207.   Check to see that no other card in the system is using the memory map 
  208.   area that is set aside for the SCSI card. (Page 13)
  209.  
  210.   Check VGA cards.  Most will grab other areas of memory that they 
  211.   shouldn't.  If the VGA card is the culprit, try placing it in an 8 bit
  212.   slot.
  213.  
  214.   Check memory maps of memory boards.
  215.  
  216.   Make sure that memory managers (usually implemented in the CONFIG.SYS 
  217.   statement) have the memory area excluded that the SCSI card is using.
  218.  
  219.   Check with the computer manufacturer about how to disable video, disk, 
  220.   bios, and system caching.  All these features need to memory addressed.
