- RemCtrl Toolbox: This software lets you use a fax, answering machine, and
- PC host Communications software all on the same telephone line! In
- addition, the FONECALL! module will call your pager whenever a call
- has been received by your answering machine. Automatically resets
- on false alarms and loss of carrier. (All this with 1 phone line!)
- "Elegant", says David Abrahamson of Car & Driver. "Slick", says Ron
- Albright of COMPUTER SHOPPER.
-
- BARCODES: Prints UPC, Code 39, and Interleaved 2 of 5 barcodes on any
- EPSON/IBM compatible dot matrix printer. Also available are
- barcode soft fonts for Hewlett Packard compatible laser printers.
- Same routines proven in the Automotive industry.
-
- AUTOLOG: A 8K TSR program that logs the date, time & elapsed time of every
- program you run on your PC. AUTOLOG works quickly and silently.
- The AUTOLOG Report writer can tell you how much time you spent
- on each pc program. For the IRS: It can tell you how much time on
- games vs. business applications. For employers: You can secretly
- see what really goes on with your office PC's. Find out the average
- time the PC's are turned on and off each day. Simple to use.
-
- GASGAUGE: A 8K TSR, battery timer for Laptop computers with a built in
- LARGE VISIBLE cursor option. GASGAUGE displays an estimate of how
- much battery time is left on your laptop computer before a battery
- charge will be needed. GASGAUGE was called "one of the most popular
- files accessed on the the PC Board" by On-Line Life Magazine (p.23,
- April 1989). Version 5.0 of GASGAUGE is 1/10th the size of previous
- versions. DOS 3.0 or greater is required.
-
- HOW GASGAUGE WORKS:
- GASGAUGE updates an elapsed time file on your disk at a rate of once
- per minute. The estimated remaining time of your battery charge is
- shown in the upper right corner of the screen. If you are using the
- "OFF LIFE" parameter then an estimate of the battery charge consumed
- while the computer was off will be automatically deducted from the
- remaining time whenever the computer is turned on. No more
- surprises from a dead battery when you have GASGAUGE.
-
- The Registered version has these additional features:
- 1) YOU CAN TOGGLE THE TIME DISPLAY ON AND OFF
- 1) GASGAUGE COMPENSATES FOR BATTERY CONSUMPTION WHEN THE COMPUTER IS OFF!
- 2) GASGAUGE CONSUMES LESS MEMORY THAN THE SHAREWARE VERSION
- 3) GASGAUGE CONTAINS A DEEP DISCHARGE PROGRAM TO EXTEND NiCad CHARGE LIFE
- 4) GASGAUGE HAS AN AUDIBLE ALARM WHEN THE CHARGE BECOMES DANGEROUSLY LOW
-

-
-
- STARTING GASGAUGE:
-
- Usage: GG path\file [options]
-
- Options are:
- -A Audible alarm (registered version only)
- -C Large Block Cursor
- -R=xxx Reset elapsed time where 'xxx' is the new elapsed time
- -O=xxx Off life- where 'xxx' is maximum number of days a charge will
- be held while the computer is off and unplugged.
-
- Once GASGAUGE has started, the remaining time will be displayed in the
- upper right corner of the display. The registered version allows you to
- toggle the display on and off by holding the [ALT] and [TAB] key at the
- same time.
-
- PATH\FILE: is the name of the disk or directory where the work file named
- "GAS" will be written. If you are using a hard drive equipped laptop then
- this path should be the root directory of the hard drive ( "D:\" for
- Toshiba T1000 laptops). If you are using a Laptop with only floppy drives
- then you must always start the computer (and turn off the computer) with
- the same diskette. This is because the elapsed time file must be accessed
- both when the computer is started and whenever the computer is turned off.
-
- -A ALARM: If the ALARM is on, the user will be warned audibly when the
- battery life is dangerously low. The alarm can be heard regardless of what
- you are doing with the computer and will sound without having to "pop-up"
- the GAS GAUGE. This is not available on the shareware version. When the
- Alarm is on, an "A" will appear next to the time display.
-
- -C CURSOR: the -c option will make the cursor a large visible block.
-
- -R RESET : is the number of minutes expected of a fully charged battery.
- Here's how to estimate the battery life of your laptop computer:
- 1) First charge the battery fully then remove the battery charger.
- 2) Type "GG C:\GAS -R=0" to reset the GASGAUGE elapsed time to 0 minutes
- 3) Leave the computer on until the battery is completely discharged.
- 4) Plug the computer in and start GASGAUGE.
- The negative number that appears in the upper right corner will be the time
- expected from a fully charged battery. Remember, GASGAUGE requires the
- BATTERY LIFE in minutes so 3 hours and 15 minutes would be typed as 195
- minutes.
-
- -O OFF LIFE: is the number of days the computer will stay charged with the
- power turned off and the charger not attached. This value is difficult to
- estimate and can more easily be found in your laptop computer's manual.
-
- Consider the following example: Your computer operates for 240 minutes
- on a full charge (the BATTERY LIFE is 240 minutes) but your computer only
- stays charged for 14 days if it is unplugged and not used (so the OFF
- LIFE is 14 days). Assume that GASGAUGE was reset to 240 the last time the
- battery was charged and the charger was disconnected. After 7 days of not
- being used GASGAUGE knows that 50% of the battery life was consumed (50% =
- 7/14 days) while the computer was not used. The elapsed time will be
- increased by 50% and the GASGAUGE will show 02:00 remaining (120 minutes =
- 50% x 240 minutes from a full charge). The DATE and TIME must be correct
- on your computer for the OFF LIFE to work correctly.
-
- ADDITIONAL FREE PROGRAMS WITH YOUR REGISTRATION:
-
- GGPOP- Pop up the GasGauge
-
- Popup is a TSR utility that allows you to "POP UP" the GASGAUGE instead
- of having it displayed all of the time. GGPOP will be sent to you upon
- your registration of GAS GAUGE.
-
- CURSOR - Large visible block Cursor
-
- The CURSOR program changes your flat sissy cursor into a big plump block
- cursor (ya). This is the stand alone version of the routine used in the
- GASGAUGE program (ya). CURSOR will Pump, (clap), you up. This stand alone
- file will be sent to you with your registration of GASGAUGE. CURSOR uses
- about 2K when resident.
-
- DEEP DISCHARGE ROUTINE:
-
- Complete discharge of rechargeable batteries is recommended by some
- manufacturers of NI-CAD batteries as a method of exercising the battery
- for maximum charge time. Batteries which are not fully discharged before
- being recharged can develop 'recharge memory' resulting in a shorter
- 'charge life'.
-
- The GASGAUGE discharge routine depletes your battery more quickly by running
- all power consuming devices continuously until the battery is discharged. The
- DEEP DISCHARGE program is provided separately from GASGAUGE.
-
- To avoid premature wear on your disk drives you should only use this
- routine when you would like to discharge your batteries as quickly as
- possible. Although the Deep Discharge routine has been tested on a
- variety of computers you should contact your computer manufacturer if you
- have any questions about continuous disk drive operation.
-
- Before starting the deep discharge routine all external disk drives should
- be off or disconnected and diskettes should be removed from the drives.
- The GASGAUGE elapsed time file will not be updated so remember to reset
- the elapsed time after completing the new charge cycle.
-
- The routine may be stopped at any time by pressing [ESC] key. There may be
- up to a 15 second delay before the disk drives stop turning.
-
- DEEP DISCHARGE will be sent to you with your registration of GASGAUGE.
