- I. INTRODUCTION
-
- Equipment Check is a program that's been evolving as a front-end for
- any hardware detection techniques I've picked up over the years. Just
- type EQ to run.
-
-
-
- II. WHAT'S NEW THIS VERSION
-
- a. Total system board memory displayed, via the CMOS setup RAM,
- for ATs and above.
-
- b. The SYSLEVEL and its release date, if there is one, for DOS
- 4.0 users.
-
- c. Detects if SHARE is loaded or not.
-
- d. Mouse support - a single click is the same as pressing a
- key, a double click is the same as pressing escape.
-
- e. Now detects 486 CPUs. Feedback on this feature from i486
- owners is appreciated.
-
- f. Detects if running in a virtual DOS machine under Windows
- 3.0's Enhanced 386 mode.
-
- g. Detects the presence of DPMI (DOS Protected Mode Interface).
-
- h. Detects the latest IBM PS/2s (new Model 80s, 65SX).
-
-
-
- III. COMMAND-LINE OPTIONS
-
- /B - Don't run the Dhrystone benchmark.
-
- /C - Don't check CSD level if DOS 4.xx is found.
-
- /R - Reset mouse, if any, at program startup. This was added
- especially for Windows 3.0 users. Just put /R as a parameter in
- the PIF file and you can control EQ with a mouse from Windows.
-
- /D - Disable video blinking and exit.
-
- /E - Enable video blinking and exit.
-
- /? - A summary help list.
-
-
-
- III. FOR OS/2'ERS
-
- This program can be especially helpful for OS/2 users who want to know
- what *.BIO file to keep in their root directory. The model, submodel,
- and sometimes BIOS revision correspond to the *.BIO file to keep in
- the root for your machine. The actual BIOS revision number in your
- machine may be later than the one on the file. The filename will be
- MMSSRR.BIO, where MM is the model, SS is the submodel, and RR may be
- the BIOS revision. Be sure to edit ABIOS.SYS also. I know this works
- on micro channel machines, I'm not sure about ISA machines.
-
- EQ also knows when its in the DOS box and reports the OS accordingly.
-
- If you use EQ under OS/2 1.2's dual boot (NOT the DOS box, which is
- okay), and use a version of DOS 4.0 with no SYSLEVEL command, *and*
- have \OS2 on your path, you'll get odd results, as OS/2's SYSLEVEL
- command will be executed. Just use EQ /C to avoid.
-
-
-
- IV. MORE DETECTION
-
- There's a new, untested, 486 detector in this version. Some things EQ
- can't detect yet: PS/1s, EISA buses, SX version of the 386. Any
- detection techniques for these (or other items) are gratefully
- accepted.
