- I have noted a problem that should be easy to fix -- the "login id" used
- when Telneting into the mailbox is not upper-cased. Thus, the local
- msys node has my callsign in both upper and lower case... and the lower-case
- callsign blows its mind! If I remember to use upper-case when logging in
- to the PC, msys gives me the welcome banner twice, but it does work.

- Hey - thanks for the tip. I have never even logged into my bbs in upper case.
-
- In regard to Anders comment about removing the ***LINKED to message from the
- mailbox, I vote leave it in. Especially if this upper case trick works....

- I don't think it got to the general group but Kelvin put "RSPF"
- info at Thumper. I picked it up in incomming but it may be moved
- by now. It is a paper on RSPF and some implementation notes from
- Anders. Worth picking up. We have implemented it here and as soon
- as it runs for awhile I will report on it here.
-
- It requires the emm82810 version (or later) of G1EMM NOS.

- All,
- I am posting this question for the benefit of John Greenwood (g4xhs)
- who has no net access.
- He has been using 1.1.7 and finds that it seems to be in full duplex mode
- all the time while in KISS. He claims that the setting of parameter 5 from
- NOS does not place it into half duplex. Does anyone else know of these type
- of problems and if so, what the fix is. I can't test it for him as I only
- have AEA kit. Any advice welcomed. Also, is the source code for 1.1.7 ever
- likely to be made available?
- All the best,
- Kelvin.

- I just replaced my MFJ ROM with a TAPR 1.1.7 and found that one of my
- major KISS problems went away. I also found that the TAPR KISS seems
- (I stress that word 'cause I don't have this figured out yet) to be "quick
- on the trigger" when it comes to DCD in half-duplex mode. Momentary glitches
- in the DCD line (caused when a 2400-baud packet looses lock on the PLL) would
- cause my TNC to jump on the channel and stomp on someone. Using the external
- DCD input seems to have cured that. (and, yes, the slottime and persistence
- are set and seem to work ok).

- Kelvin,
- you are right, the KISS code in 1.1.7 is ONLY full-duplex. I guess TAPR
- included in the EPROM the version modified by Bob N4HY for the Microsats;
- infact, the original full-duplex mode of KISS _was_ broken.
- I believe right now we have a KISS working only full duplex (also good for
- 9600 bps on UO-14), and the older half-duplex KISS (not good at higher
- speeds).
- We in Milan have modified a 1.1.7 relocating the old KISS on the new one, thus
- having the possibility to work TCP/IP on usual channels.
- Mr. McGwier, send a mail to the list if I am wrong ;-)

- Although I haven't checked, you should be able to use the param command to
- set the full-duplex/half-duplex nature of kiss. To wit:
-
- param ax0 5 0 <-- sets to half duplex
- param ax0 5 1 <-- sets to full duplex
-
- I didn't realize that the 1.1.7 release defaulted to full duplex!
-
- Please let me know if this works.

-
- I fear that the "param" command does not change this version of kiss to
- half-duplex. I grounded the external DCD input on my TNC and found that
- it would transmit regardless of the state of DCD. The use of the param
- command seemed to have no effect.
-
- I down-graded to the original 1.2.6 MFJ ROM and kiss works as advertised.
-
- This could cause a little bit of a collision problem if 1.1.7 gets
- widespread...
