  34.         Welcome to Amateur Radio Station LOGBOOK software. I hope you find
  35.     this BBS copy interesting enough to want a REGISTERED copy. All the
  36.     functions for logging are included in the BBS copy. The only sections
  37.     that are limited are as follows:
  38.  
  39.          1) The logs are limited to 100 entries maximum. You may make
  40.             several logs but each is limited to 100 QSO's per log file.
  41.  
  42.          2) You cannot update the DXINFO database from the program. In a
  43.             REGISTERED copy, you could ADD a NEW prefix to or EDIT any 
  44.             errors the current data. The database file can be updated using 
  45.             dBASE III Plus if you have the inclination to do so.
  46.  
  47.          3) You cannot perform an automatic BACKUP or RESTORE of the log
  48.             files as you could in a REGISTERED copy. This feature is fully 
  49.             automatic once the user selects what and where to backup or 
  50.             restore. As with any software program that generates data
  51.             files, backups are the most important item behind the program
  52.             itself.

  54.          4) You cannot branch to DOS as in a REGISTERED copy. This is a
  55.             nice feature to have if you need to setup a printer external
  56.             to the program or need to format a backup disk.

  59.     Also, with this BBS copy the USER manual is not the complete manual set.
  60.     In order to limit the size required for downloading a simple startup
  61.     manual was extracted from the FULL manual set. Where the full manual
  62.     set is appx. 90 pages with a table of contents and comes preformatted,
  63.     ready to print, the BBS manual only covers the basics of the program such
  64.     as start up and command overview. On-line help is available on the BBS
  65.     version if needed.

  67.     So as you can see, you can get a good feel as to how ARS LOGBOOK works
  68.     using the BBS copy and then if you decide to register for $24.95, you
  69.     will receive a full function copy with a complete manual set, FREE
  70.     technical support, upgrades and be eligible for rebates.

  72.     BBS Version Distribution Files

  74.     The following files are included in the BBS version set. Due to the
  75.     eed to limit the size of the download set for a BBS version,  several
  76.     support files not required for the BBS version were not included which
  77.     will be included in a REGISTERED version. These include a Report Gene-
  78.     ration Utility for creating custom report forms, a FULL manual set and
  79.     others. The following is a list of the contents of the ZIPPED

  93.                      **   Installing the BBS copy   **

  96.     NOTE: Only the hard disk system will be discussed here. If you need
  97.     to install ARS LOGBOOK on a floppy only system, contact the author.
  98.     Instrcution on installation for floppy only and special system require-
  99.     ments are discussed in detail in the full manual set.

  101.     1) I would recommend creating a specific subdirectory for all the files 
  102.        to reside.
  103.  
  104.     2) Once extracted and/or copied, select the subdirectory where the files 
  105.        reside, if not already there.
  106.  
  107.     3) Enter the command to start the program as follows:

  109.                   LOG521 followed by RETURN
  110.  
  111.     4) Follow the prompts to initialize the program and create the default
  112.        log file set, 'LOGBOOK'.
