- WHAT'S NEW IN CON>FORMAT 1.06
-
- It's been really great to get all kinds of suggestions for ways
- to improve the usability of Con>Format.
-
- We added a few new features to Con>Format 1.06:
-
- 1. Up to 8 diskette drives are supported on up to 8
- different adapters. Instead of remainng fixed at
- 37x, I/O port base addresses can now be specified
- for each drive in the configuration table.
-
- 2. The seek speed is now adjustable for each drive.
- Normally, you can leave this set at 6 msec (the
- usual default). However, if your drive is noisy
- at this rate, you can use a lower seek time.
-
- 3. When a diskette is accessed while Con>Format is
- formatting, a running display of the format progress
- is presented.
-
- 4. If, in the case of a "stalled" diskette access,
- the ESCape key is pressed, a "Drive Not Ready" status
- will be returned to the system for the "stalled"
- access. Note that it usually takes 4 or 5 successive
- ESC key depressions to actually display the DOS
- message "Drive not ready" because DOS retries every
- failing disk operation several times before reporting
- errors.
-
- 5. The one-line short "Con>Format installed..." message
- is now written to standard output, so it may be re-
- directed to a file, if desired.
-
- 6. Some of the timings have been lengthened a bit, so those
- of you with 33MHz 80386 systems should have no problems.
