- SECTION 2
-
-
-
- DOS/AID and DOS
-
-
- 2-1. Types of Commands
-
- DOS uses two types of commands: internal and external.
-
- Internal commands are loaded into the computer's memory from a
- file called COMMAND.COM. These commands remain in memory until
- the machine is turned off. They are referred to as internal
- commands.
-
- External commands are located on your DOS disk. They are loaded
- into memory only when you execute them. They are referred to as
- external commands.
-
- You are expected to have some knowledge of your computer system. For
- example your should at this point be able to turn on your computer and
- startup the operating system.
-
- DOS/AID will guide you through the command portion of your intended
- task by providing information on the processing commands available.
- Including, each command's general purpose, the command syntax expected
- by the operating system, an explanation of each portion of the command
- syntax and in some cases, an example.

- SECTION 3
-
-
-
- INSTALLING DOS/AID
-
-
- 3-1. Installing Dos/Aid
-
- Installation of your DOS/AID product is very easy. DOSAID WILL RESIDE
- IN THE ROOT DIRECTORY OF A DRIVE. That is, the highest directory level
- on a drive. On a hard-disk system DOS/AID will be available at all
- times without any fuss regardless of your current directory or drive.
- On a floppy based system, your "Activated" DOS/AID system disk must be
- present in the drive originally install to.
-
- 3-2. Installation Procedures
-
- Installation onto your computer system can be performed from any drive
- or directory. The location of your DOS/AID files is not important. At
- the DOS command prompt, enter the following command:
-
- [location]install root source
-
- where: location is the valid DOS pathname to the DOS/AID install
- program that came with the distribution disk.
-
- INSTALL this command must be entered as is. Case is not
- significant.
-
- root is the drive specification of the root directory
- to receive the DOS/AID system files.
-
- source is the valid DOS pathname of the location of the
- DOS/AID system files being installed.
-
- The drive specification on the root directory to receive the DOS/AID
- system files may be optionally followed by a colon [:].
-
- YOU MUST USE THE INSTALLATION PROGRAM. COPYING THE FILES AS THEY EXIST
- ON THE PROGRAM WILL BE OF NO VALUE SINCE THE INSTALLATION PROGRAM
- PERFORMS CERTAIN FUNCTIONS THAT ENABLE DOS/AID TO USE THE WINDOW
- LIBRARIES.
-
- IF YOU ARE INSTALLING THE DOS/AID EVALUATION PRODUCT YOU MAY USE
- DOS/AID FOR THIRTY (30) DAYS TO EVALUATE THE PRODUCT, AT WHICH TIME YOU
- MUST REGISTER YOUR COPY IF YOU INTEND TO CONTINUE ITS USE. THE
- EVALUATION COPY OF DOS/AID IS THE FULL FEATURED DOS/AID ASSISTANT WITH
- THE ADDITIONAL COMMERCIAL OPENING SCREEN DISPLAY.

- SECTION 4
-
-
-
- USING YOUR DOS/AID ASSISTANT
-
-
-
- 4-1. Using your DOS/AID Assistant
-
- Use of DOS/AID is very easy.
-
- DOS/AID can be summoned by pressing the "hot key" combination CTRL - "\".
- That is, by pressing the CTRL key and the backslash "\" at the same time.
- This combination was selected as the least likely to interfere with any
- other program you are using. We know of no other programs using this key
- stroke combination.
-
- You can exit DOS/AID and return to your current work session at any
- time by pressing [ESC].
-
- Upon summoning DOS/AID you will be presented with a series of menus
- which allow choices by pressing [ENTER]. Some menus automatically
- display their information as you scroll up and down the menu using the
- cursor keys.
-
- After reading the required information you may exit to your work
- session by pressing [ESC] or you may return to the DOS/AID menu you
- came from by pressing [ENTER] again.
-
- Simple and easy.
-
- If you experience a menu covering the work you were doing before you
- summoned DOS/AID and you would still like to see your work, you can
- press [SCROLL LOCK], which will allow you to move the menu to another
- part of the screen using the cursor keys. Directions are provided on
- the bottom of the screen after you have used [SCROLL LOCK]. Pressing
- [SCROLL LOCK] a second time returns your control to the normal DOS/AID
- selection functions.
