- A few general notes from M.R.E. ******
-
- This is an excerpt from the .DOC file that explains how to run StS. the first
- time. Please read.
-
- >> Sec. 1.2 RUNNING StS THE FIRST TIME
- _____________________________________________________________________
-
- To execute StS, just type in STS at the DOS prompt like you
- would any other program. StS is not resident or special with respect
- to general operation with one exception. StS expects to find the
- COMSPEC environment string defined. In 99% of all cases MS-DOS has
- already done this job for you so no action is required by the user.
- In the event that StS does not find this string, it will report the
- error. If this happens, then simply add this statement to your
- AUTOEXEC.BAT file. SET COMSPEC = C:\COMMAND.COM If you are not
- running a hard disk, you should adjust the drive letter as required.
-
- When executed, the StS screen will appear on your display, quite
- slowly, and in living black and white. The system defaults are set to
- BIOS screen writes which allow the program to operate on any type of
- MS-DOS machine. If your computer is IBM display compatible, which
- most are, you will want to follow the simple procedure below to
- increase the program speed.
- ---------------------------------------------------------------------
- To turn BIOS screen writing off:
-
- (1.) Press the <F3> function key to go into setup mode.
- (2.) Press the <F1> function key to set Screen/Sort/Mouse options.
- (3.) Press the <F3> function key to toggle BIOS mode off.
- (4.) Press the <Esc> key when you are finished playing with the other
- options.
- (5.) Press the <F4> key to save the change and exit setup mode.

- Some things about StS and M.R.E. you will want to know:
-
- Stereo Shell shareware version currently supports four different file
- compression utilities. It was decided that PKZIP, PKPAK, LHARC, and PAK,
- would be the most useful and demonstrative utilities for inclusion in this
- package. These four utilities are implemented using pre-programmed commands
- which give the user adequate control over the compression process.
- The registered version of StS allows the compression system operation
- to be programmed by the user. This feature allows the use of more
- sophisticated command strings and even the porting of other file compression
- utilities such as SEA's ARC.EXE program. The registered version also supports
- four external user defined utility programs instead of just one as in the
- shareware version. The additional user utilities give the program much more
- power by allowing the user to attach such things a other editors, file finders
- and even assemblers and compilers.

- M.R.E. Software has updated our support BBS system. We are now running
- a Hayes 9600v series modem and a 80286 class CPU. The BBS is on-line 24 hours
- per day and we are always glad to hear from you. When you decide to register
- StS and want the convenience of using your VISA/MC give us a call.
