  4. ***** QUADRAPHONIC COMPRESSION SUPPORT.  (Stereo never sounded this good!)
  5.       StS now supports four compression programs. PKZIP, PKPAK, LHARC, and
  6.       PAK as defaults.  Registered users enjoy the ability to program the
  7.       command strings used by these programs and even port other compression
  8.       utilities such as System Enhancement's ARC.EXE program.  Who knows, at
  9.       the pace this compression technology is moving, another of the latest
  10.       and greatest "archivers" may be out next week!  StS has been designed
  11.       to take care of this possibility.....

  13. ***** EDITOR and USER utilities interface improved.
  14.       StS now allows the user to pass parameters to the editor and user
  15.       defined user utility programs and also makes the passing of the
  16.       filename and pausing after execution optional. Batch files are also
  17.       now acceptable as user defined programs. The shareware version supports
  18.       1 user defined utility whereas the registered version supports four.
  19.       User defined utilities may be any program the user desires to aid in
  20.       using the system...The most popular "attachment" to StS seems to be
  21.       Vern Buerg's LIST.COM program.  Although StS has a built in viewer, its
  22.       intent is as a "quick look" list function and not a full blown file
  23.       list program.  LIST.COM makes an excellent choice for USER1.

  25. ***** SOUND EFFECTS (and the ability to turn them off!)
  26.       Exploding windows now "bark" when they blast on the screen.  The sound
  27.       is included only if exploding windows are enabled.  This version also
  28.       contains an option to disable sound via the setup section.

  30. ***** HIDDEN FILES SWITCH
  31.       Although due to time limitations this feature is not fully up to our
  32.       standards, we have at least included the ability to see hidden files
  33.       via a setup mode switch.  Expect coming updates to enhance this as
  34.       well as other file attribute related functions.  Since StS is used as
  35.       much as a file compression interface as a pure shell, it was considered
  36.       important that the new compression program support features be released
  37.       as soon as they were implemented and tested.

  39. ***** SETUP PROGRAM LINE EDITOR
  40.       Entering and changing setup program information is now much easier due
  41.       to the new line/screen editor built in.  The <Ins>, <Del>, <Home>,
  42.       <End>, and cursor keys are all now active when editing.

  44. ***** DYNAMIC MEMORY ALLOCATION improved.
  45.       StS, being written in 100% assembler language, is already quite small
  46.       and fast by nature.  It is now an even better memory miser.
  47.       Improvements in the memory allocation techniques coupled with StS's
  48.       ability to "shrink" itself when running external programs should make
  49.       even your biggest applications happy.  The registered version, despite
  50.       its enhanced features is actually slightly smaller than the shareware
  51.       version.  This is due to the fact that it does not contain the StS
  52.       registration form data and various other text messages.

  54. ***** SET STS_110 environment variable added.
  55.       StS will now search the MS-DOS environment for information relating
  56.       to the name and location of its STS110.CFG configuration file.  Use
  57.       the SET STS_110=d:\path\filename.ext in your AUTOEXEC.BAT file if you
  58.       want the configuration file name or location to be different from the
  59.       default of d:\STS110.CFG.  This string is very useful if you are
  60.       running StS from various disk drives since it tells StS which drive
  61.       contains the configuration information.

  63. ***** INCREASED PROGRAMMABILITY  (registered version only)
  64.       Command strings for controlling the compression programs may now be up
  65.       to 16 bytes in length.  This feature allows full implementation of the
  66.       PKZIP compression options as well as doing some other neat tricks.  One
  67.       trick worth noting is the ability to program LHARC 1.12 so that it uses
  68.       Buerg's LIST.COM program as its file viewer.  Registered users may
  69.       want to try programming the type text file command as [P /VLIST] in
  70.       LHARC.
