- File: PKZ-CED.DOC
-
- This file defines CED synonyms that make the operation of PKZIP
- easier to remember, easier to type, and therefore easier to use.
- This file contains updates to a previous file PK-CED.*** by
- John Pearson which defined synonyms for Christopher Dunfords'
- CED program. All I have done is to update the synonyms to refer
- to Phil Katz new PKZIP/PKUNZIP programs. I have included two
- copies of the synonyms. One contains complete replacements for
- the existing ones and the other has a Z imbeded in the command name
- for those who wish to be able to use both PKZIP and PKPAK until
- they have converted all of their files. I have also added another
- command to the list: PKT will run the PKUNZIP program with the
- T test integrity command. As a bulletin board Sysop I find I use
- this more often than the others as I want to make sure the files
- that have been uploaded are good files. File CED1.PKZ contains
- the replacement set of synonyms and file CED2.PKZ contains the
- set that can still be used along with the original set that runs
- PKPAK. Also note that since file level comments are not available
- until PKZIP version 1.0, I have changed those commands that refer
- to file level comments to an echo statement that displays a message
- to the user. When version 1.0 is ready, I will create an update to
- this file that adds those commands back in.
-
- I have not yet had a chance to experiment with some of the newer
- features of PKZIP. Hopefully by the time version 1.0 is available
- I will have additional synonyms to add allowing the use of the newer
- commands. My bulletin board information is listed below and I welcome
- comments or suggestions for improvements.
-
- I would also like to THANK John Pearson for creating the original
- synonyms as they have made my use of the PKware programs much easier
- and faster. The following information is basically copied from the
- original DOC file and defines what the various commands do.

-
- THE SYNONYMS
-
- The following lines, included in your CED configuration file
- (probably called CED.CFG or some such), will allow the same sort
- of mnemonic operation for the PK series.
-
- SYN pka pkzip az
- SYN pkac pkzip acz ** available in version 1.0 **
- SYN pkc pkzip cz ** available in version 1.0 **
- SYN pkd pkzip d
- SYN pke pkunzip
- SYN pkl pkunzip -cm
- SYN pkp pkunzip -pa
- SYN pku pkzip -uz
- SYN pkuc pkzip -ucz ** available in version 1.0 **
- SYN pkv pkzip -vt
- SYN pkvc pkzip -vc ** available in version 1.0 **

- I assume the correspondence is obvious, but just in case --
-
- pka A)dd with zipfile comment only
- pkac A)dd with constituent file C)omments too
- pkc C)omments only are added
- pkd D)elete
- pke E)xtract
- pkl L)ist constituent file(s) using the more feature
- pkp P)rint constituent file(s) in ASCII mode
- pku U)pdate with zipfile comment only
- pkuc U)pdate with constituent file C)omments too
- pkv V)erbose list of files (with technical info)
- pkvc V)erbose list of files including C)omments
-
- One example:
-
- PKE MUCH *.COM D:\
-
- will unzip all .COM files contained in the zipfile MUCH.ARC
- and place them in the root directory of drive D:
-
- These should do most of what you want to do. I have not included
- the add-to-zip-then-delete-file option because I think it's
- dangerous. If something goes awry, you may be left with deleted
- files you want back. As the disk get fuller (and that is probably
- why you ZIPping in the first place), the probability increases
- that DOS will write over the deleted files so that even Norton or
- Mace can't come to the rescue.
