  1.                                  ABOUT BACKUPS 
  2.  
  3.           You probably  make  backups of  your  data regularly.    (At 
  4.           least, we  hope you do.  If you don't, you certainly should. 
  5.           We say this from personal experience; disaster can strike at 
  6.           any time.) 
  7.  
  8.           Some backup programs access your hard disk in a non-standard 
  9.           way, bypassing normal DOS processing.   Such backup programs 
  10.           are inherently less  safe than  those that follow  published 
  11.           standards, and will not work  with NewSpace.  PC-Fullbak and 
  12.           Back-It  are  two  such  programs  that  do  not  work  with 
  13.           NewSpace.

  15.           Backup programs that  follow published  standards, and  that 
  16.           don't bypass  normal DOS  processing, such  as Fastback  and 
  17.           Fastback Plus (for backing up to diskette) and Tecmar's QIC- 
  18.           60  (for  backing up  to  tape),  will work  very  well with 
  19.           NewSpace.    Also, the  BACKUP  command  of  DOS works  with 
  20.           NewSpace.

  22.           Tecmar's QT-type tape backup systems can be  made to operate 
  23.           in either a non-standard way or in  a standard way.  To make 
  24.           these systems operate  in the standard way  (compatibly with 
  25.           NewSpace), specify  "Other" in  the "NETWORK"  field on  the 
  26.           options panel (whether you  actually are using a  network or 
  27.           not).

  30.                       BEFORE YOU RUN THE COMPRESS PROGRAM 
  31.  
  32.           If  you  are using  a file  facility  program, such  as File 
  33.           Facility, dPATH, or EasyPath, then  you should deactivate it 
  34.           while you run  the (one-time) COMPRESS program.   Otherwise, 
  35.           COMPRESS  may  not be  able to  find  and compress  all your 
  36.           files.

  39.                         FOR OWNERS OF JRAM MEMORY BOARDS 
  40.  
  41.           The JET program by Tall Tree Systems uses a non-standard DOS 
  42.           interface, and is therefore incompatible with NewSpace. 
  43.  
  44.           However,  the  JRAM boards,  and  the software  that manages 
  45.           these boards, are compatible with NewSpace.

  47.  
  48.                              FOR OWNERS OF XtreePro 
  49.  
  50.           XtreePro sometimes accesses  DOS in a non-standard  way that 
  51.           is incompatible with NewSpace.   In order to change  the way 
  52.           that XtreePro works,  start XtreePro  with the command  line 
  53.           option  /LS,  or  use  XtreePro's configuration  program  to 
  54.           specify that the  "Standard" disk  logging method should  be 
  55.           used.

  58.                                       NOTE 
  59.  
  60.           NewSpace   doesn't   currently  work   in   a  multi-tasking 
  61.           environment  such as  Windows, DESQview,  or TopView.   In a 
  62.           networking environment such  as IBM's  PC Network,  NewSpace 
  63.           doesn't currently work  on the file  server or servers,  but 
  64.           can be used to compress data on the workstations' hard disks.

  67.                      IF YOU HAVE A PROBLEM RUNNING UNINSTALL
  68.  
  69.           Certain  resident  programs  prevent   NewSpace's  UNINSTALL
  70.           program from working properly.  If  you try to run UNINSTALL
  71.           and  have any  problems, boot  your system  from a  bootable
  72.           floppy disk with no resident  programs (not even the  NEWRES
  73.           program  that normally  activates  NewSpace), and  then  run
  74.           UNINSTALL again.
