- New Features of ONE TO ONE version 2.0
- --------------------------------------
- (How version 2.0 is better than version 1.0)
-
- * Smooth Typing During File Transfers
- It was hard to do. You'll appreciate the difference this makes!
-
- * CTRL Characters Can Send Messages
- The CTRL characters can have messages mapped to them. This means that
- you could set up CTRL-S to send "Send the file in 10 seconds, OK?", for
- example. This is a very powerful and nice feature that was added after
- recognizing that I frequently typed the same messages in my conversations.
- I have mine set up so that when I want to greet someone, I press CTRL-G
- and it prints a welcoming message. Use your imagination. It's fun.
- You can edit the messages associated with the CTRL keys with the new Keys
- pull-down menu.
-
- * Larger Phone Directory
- The phone directory has been expanded to hold 100 entries. Also, you may
- now print the phone directory to the printer.
-
- * Redial Last Number
- ALT-R will redial the last number that was dialed from the directory.
-
- * End Of Message Indicator
- If you want to indicate that you've finished a thought and are waiting
- for a reply, press CTRL-ENTER. The other user will get the following...
- A "space", A smiley face, A Carriage Return. All you will see is a CR.
- You don't have to use this if you don't want to. (Another use for it
- might be to show that something you've typed was meant to be said with
- a grin.)
-
- * Save The Dividing Bar Position
- After changing the position of the dividing bar to suit your taste (use
- the "Screen" pull down menu), select 'Save OPTIONS.121' from the "Files"
- menu. Then, every time you run ONE TO ONE, the dividing bar will appear
- at the saved location.
-
- * Edit Modem Initialization String
- In version 1.0 you had to erase OPTIONS.121 and start over. Now you can
- pull down the "Modem" menu and select 'Edit Modem Initialization'. The
- edited initialization string will is saved for future use.
-
- * Save Current Communications Parameters
- After changing parameters ('Alt-P' or the "Modem" pull-down menu), pull
- down the "Files" menu and select 'Save OPTIONS.121'. The parameters will
- be saved for future use.
-
- * Change Monitor Types
- The "Screen" pull-down menu has a new selection called 'Change Monitor
- Types'. You can use this option to select one of the three color schemes
- that ONE TO ONE handles. (In the old days, you had to erase OPTIONS.121
- and start over again to reconfigure your screen.)
-
- * Select Dialing Mode
- The "Phone" pull-down menu has a new choice called 'Select Dialing Mode'.
- With it, you can select between Pulse or TouchTone service. (This was
- another one of those things that required starting over again in the
- previous release, version 1.0)
-
- * Command Line Arguments
- You can dial a directory listing upon starting ONE TO ONE by adding the
- listing number to dial after the 121 at the DOS prompt.
- Example: "121 87" would run ONE TO ONE and immediately dial directory
- entry number 87.
- Also, you can type "121 A" and your modem will be put in Auto-Answer mode
- upon entering ONE TO ONE. (upper or lower case 'A' will work)
-
- * Go From Data To Voice
- The Phone pull-down menu has a new entry. This will do the same thing as
- though you had pressed ALT-H in terminal mode. You and your friend should
- pick up your phones before doing this. I personally will always just
- pressed ALT-H but I put it in here for the sake of consistency.
-
- * Print Directory
- In the Dialing Directory you can press P to print your directory listing
- to your printer.
-
- * Environment Variable "121PATH"
- In order to support networking I have changed the code so that it looks
- for an envirnment variable called 121PATH whenever it tries to load or
- save ONE TO ONE system files. The use of the 121PATH environment variable
- is optional. Don't read anymore about this feature unless you are a
- "power user".
-
- How this benifits people running Local Area Networks...
- They can have 121.EXE in a public directory. They can keep their phone
- directory, options file, and CTRLTEXT file in a personal directory.
- Whenever they run ONE TO ONE it will look to wherever 121PATH points
- to load the configuration files. This way, there need only be ONE copy
- of ONE TO ONE on the network. Everybody can have their own seperate
- configuration files. (NOTE: this does not affect downloading files.)
-
- How this benefits Everyone...
- If you set 121PATH to point to your ONE TO ONE subdirectory, you can run
- ONE TO ONE from any subdirectory on your hard disk and it will
- automatically find all of its set-up files. This means that you can
- change directories to the subdirectory where you want your files to be
- downloaded and then run ONE TO ONE from there. With version 1.0 you
- had to ALT-Z to DOS and change directories and then type EXIT. That
- was handy but this is even better.
-
- * New File Names
- The phone directory has used to be named "121PHONE.DIR" but now it is
- called PHONEDIR.121. This was done so that all of the ONE TO ONE config-
- uration files would end with the extension ".121" Note that the file
- that holds the CTRLTEXT information is written to the disk as
- "CTRLTEXT.121".
-
- * Fixed Share A File
- You are now taken back to terminal mode upon leaving Share A File.
- Version 1.0 left you in menu mode.
