- "Taking Charge of DOS Volume Labels" -- Kent Porter
- The DOS volume label is one of the least-understood aspects of the
- DOS operating system. DOS labels are fairly easy to create but quite
- difficult to delete or change, because to do so requires the use of
- XFCBs rather than file handles, and the process requires deliberate
- corruption of the XFCB. The author explains what labels are for and
- how to manipulate them in this necessary but nonintuitive fashion,
- and provides a utility, VOLUME.C that creates and modifies volume
- labels in the approved DOS fashion.
