  26.    Blackbeard is designed to be a programmer's editor. It
  27. performs the editing tasks a programmer needs, in as fast and
  28. efficient manner as possible. It works the way you expect it to.
  29. The primary use for Blackbeard is for source code editing and it
  30. does all the things you would expect. It also has some word
  31. processing features.

  33. DOCUMENTATION

  35.    Blackbeard does not come with a voluminous manual. The design
  36. team decided early on that a good editor should not need a large
  37. reference manual; most of the documentation is built in. BBMAN.DOC
  38. describes the Blackbeard documentation philosophy and tells you
  39. how to create a Blackbeard manual.

  41.    The Blackbeard diskette should have the following files:

  77. Blackbeard can be installed many different ways, but many users
  78. use the following method ( for a hard disk ):

  80.   C:\> MD BB                 -- Create a blackbeard directory in the root
  81.   C:\> CD BB                 -- Change to the directory
  82.   C:\BB> COPY A:*.*          -- Copy all BB files onto the hard disk
  83.   C:\BB> BB C:\AUTOEXEC.BAT  -- Use Blackbeard to add to AUTOEXEC.BAT

  85.      ... Add C:\BB to the PATH command, then ...
  86.      ... Add the following lines somewhere in the file ...

  97. RUNNING BLACKBEARD

  99.    To run blackbeard use:

  101.       BB <filename>

  103. Blackbeard will display the startup screen and ask you for a file
  104. to edit (if one is not present).  For a list of files press enter
  105. on an empty filename.
  106.  
  107. Use the help facility (ALT-H) or see BB.DOC (first few pages)
  108. about configuration, menus, and start-up options.
  109.  
  110. NOTE: some features require proper configuration.
  111.       e.g. HELP, SAVE / RESTORE.

  116. MOUSE SUPPORT

  120.    Blackbeard includes integral mouse support for the Microsoft
  121. mouse. Mouse movements are tranlsated into cursor movements; the
  122. left button is translated to enter and used to select menu items;
  123. the right button is translated to escape and used to pop-up and
  124. exit menus.

  126. Mouse Systems

  128.    The Blackbeard distribution diskette includes a mouse menu
  129. driver for the Mouse Systems Mouse. To use the mouse install the
  130. PC mouse menu driver by running MOUSESYS (this is described in
  131. your Mouse Systems Manual). Run the Blackbeard menu program with
  132. the following command:

  134.       M_BB
  135.  
  136.    This will install a mouse driver for Blackbeard. Mouse
  137. movements are tranlsated into cursor movements; the left button
  138. is translated to enter and used to select menu items; the right
  139. button is translated to escape and used to pop-up and exit menus;
  140. the middle button and pressing the left and right buttons
  141. simultaneously (emulates αE) will repeat the last menu command.

  143. LEARNING TO USE BLACKBEARD

  145.    The best way to learn how to use Blackbeard (or any product)
  146. is to use it.

  150.    As you know software copyright violation is rampant. This is
