  13.      What is Q-Install ?
  14.      -------------------

  17.      Q-INSTALL  is a fast and easy to use installation utility.   It  allows
  18.      you to create Professional-Looking customized installs for your program
  19.      distribution.   Non-programmers can use it with ease.   It  takes  just
  20.      minutes to create a complete custom made installation.

  22.      Like most programs,  you need to install them on a customers hard  disk
  23.      drive.   Batch files are too clumsy to write and do not provide all  of
  24.      the  needed functions for user  interaction.   User  input  and  screen
  25.      handling  are very limited.   Most Install utilities available  on  the
  26.      market today cost between $50 and $250.  This cost is too much for most
  27.      programs.   Thus,  we created Q-Install.  A Quick (inexpensive) install
  28.      program that will meet 98% of most programmers needs.  It includes:

  30.        *  A High Quality Professional Look.
  31.        *  Fast Colorful Text (colors are easy to change).
  32.        *  Very small program size (below 24K).  This leaves more room for
  33.           your program files. (The main reason we created this program).
  34.        *  Easy to define options and parameters via a menu.
  35.           (No cryptic programming language to learn!)
  36.        *  Automatic checking of disk space.
  37.        *  Automatic detection of source drive.
  38.        *  Automatic checking of directories and creation.
  39.        *  User override for target drive and directory destinations.
  40.        *  Ability to display a text README file from menu screen.
  41.        *  Ability to use self-extracting PKZIP or LHA files.
  42.        *  Allows multiple install-to directories per diskette (up to 4).
  43.           Most programs require only one directory per diskette.

  46.           who order/register.  Plus a free update to the latest version.

  51.      Installation
  52.      ------------

  54.      Installation  is accomplished by executing  the  INSTALL  program.   It
  55.      seemed   only fitting that the Q-INSTALL program  be  installed   using
  56.      Q-INSTALL.   Just insert your program diskette in your  diskette  drive
  57.      and  change your drive letter to that drive.   Type "Install" and press
  58.      enter.   Q-INSTALL will extract the program files to a Directory  named
  59.      QINST.

  61.      Q-INSTALL requires DOS 3.3 or better.   Since most PC's installed today
  62.      are  using a DOS version higher then this,  you  should  not  have  any
  63.      problems, but you should still mention this requirement for those 1% or
  64.      fewer  who have not upgraded there DOS  systems.   In  the  case  where
  65.      someone  does not have DOS 3.3  or  better,   mention  an   alternative
  66.      install  process where they just copy the PROGRAM.EXE  files  to  their
  67.      hard disk drive and execute them for self-extracting.

  74.      may be printed using the QINSTDOC program.

  81.      BBS's,  User Groups,  Computer Clubs,  Disk Vendors  and  Distributors,
  82.      Subscription Services,   Disk-of-the-Month Clubs,  etc., may distribute
  83.      the Shareware Version of Q-Install provided no changes are made to  the
  84.      program  or documentation,  and no fee is  charged  other  than  normal
  85.      distribution fees not to exceed $6.00 or normal BBS download fees.
