  16. This is a fully working shareware copy of THE FINISH TOUCH.

  18. NOTE:  The ONLY difference between this shareware copy and the registered
  19.        version is that the shareware copy does a CRC check on the files
  20.        ORDER.TXT and INSTALL.TXT.  This causes up to a ten second time
  21.        delay at the beginning of this program.  The registered version
  22.        does NOT have this restriction.

  30. The Finishing Touch Software Installer consists of the minimum six files:
  31.    PACKER.EXE             file compression utility
  32.    INSTALL.EXE            installation utility
  33.    INSTALL.FIL            sample installation script file
  34.    INSTALL.TXT            documentation for all of the above
  35.    ORDER.TXT              order form
  36.    READ.ME                this file

  38. If these files are missing or altered, the software WILL NOT run!
  39.  
  40. A seventh file, SAMPLE.PAK should be included with this software to
  41. so people can see first hand how the software installer works with a "real"
  42. application.  ALL SEVEN files must be on the floppy disk to see the demo
  43. run or you will get a "Files Missing" message.

  45. Several other, optional files have been added to see a "real" application of
  46. the Finishing Touch Software Installer which we used for our TSA Software.
  47.    1.FIL             is actually named "INSTALL.FIL" on our software
  48.                      it is small and asks the question Color Y/N?
  49.    2C.FIL            if the color is "Yes" then this file is loaded
  50.    2B.FIL            this file is loaded for LCD & monochrome monitors.
  51.    4.FIL             this file is loaded only if a fatal disk error occurs.

  53. Modifying INSTALL.FIL and these four files is the "fast start" way to learn
  54. how to use THE FINISHING TOUCH Software Installer.  You have in your hands
  55. a fully working shareware evaluation copy.  We hope that you will find
  56. THE FINISHING TOUCH is the smallest, most powerful, easiest to use,
  57. software installer with the best file compression available anywhere.

  68. Today we implemented two minor changes:
  69.  
  70.   1)  DR DOS was displaying the CRC values during the UNPACK command which
  71.       caused an annoying scroll on the screen.  This problem was corrected.
  72.  
  73.   2)  A new user needed a SET.BUFFERS command similar SET.FILES so we added
  74.       it.  It works exactly the same way as SET.FILES command does; see the
  75.       documentation for details.

  80. Today we added several new commands:
  81.  
  82. PROMPT On/Off turns windows on or off for the COPY, DELETE, DISK, and UNPACK
  83. commands.  This is easier than "hiding" windows by making them the same color
  84. as the background as explained in the documentation.

  86. PAUSE t
  87. Pause for t hundredths of a second.  Nice if you want to "animate" windows.

  89. WINMOVE x y
  90. Moves the current window the new x y position.  If you use the command
  91. WINMOVE +1 +1 it will move the current window relative to its current position
  92. one row down and one row across.

  113. Relative Cursor / Window Positions

  115. WINOPEN now supports relative cursor positions.  For example, WINOPEN +0 +5 17
  116. will open a new window 5 rows down from the last window open. Relative
  117. positioning also works in the UNPACK, PATH, DRIVE, ASK, COPY, DELETE, WINMOVE,
  118. and WINUPDATE commands.

  120. Relative cursor positioning is especially useful when you are printing the
  121. selected DRIVE and PATH on the screen with the variables ~1 and ~2.

  139. This command allows the user to input text strings which you can assign to
  140. the variables ~A through ~Z.  Your script can substitute these codes similar
  141. to the ~0, ~1, ~2, and ~3 variables as explained in the documentation.

  143.     s    = String ID ("A" through "Z", your choice).
  144.     l    = String length, from 1 to 40.

  146.     x, y = Input position on the screen.  It is best to use
  147.            the + and - here, because the entire input field
  148.            must be contained within the current open window.

  193. This version fixes a bug in the SET.PATH statement.  In previous versions
  194. SET.PATH adds the directory to the PATH whether or not the directory already
  195. exists in the PATH.  This was especially frustrating if the user had to
  196. install the software several times.  Now SET.PATH looks to see if the
  197. directory already exists in the PATH, and if it does, the SET.PATH
  198. statement isn't executed.

  232. We have forced the ~3 variable to reference the root directory of the drive
  233. given in the COMSPEC variable found in the environment.  Several of our users
  234. have noted that the COMSPEC=C:\COMMAND.COM entry placed in the environment
  235. by DOS is often changed for various reasons to read COMSPEC=C:\DOS\COMMAND.COM
  236. or something similar.  Since, in this example, the ~3 variable would be set
  237. to C:\DOS, the CONFIG.SYS and AUTOEXEC.BAT files could not be correctly
  238. modified.  This change discards the \DOS portion, and forces ~3 to reference
  239. the root directory of C:.  This should resolve any problems that you have
  240. experienced with the SET.FILES, SET.BUFFERS, and SET.PATH commands.

  245. The BEEP command has been expanded to allow the following variations:

  250. If the BEEP ON command is issued, all internal error messages that open
  251. a window will beep the speaker.  The option can be disabled using the
  252. BEEP OFF command, which is the start-up default.  This feature was added
  253. at the request of developers who write software for visually impaired users.

  258. Some of our users have expressed a need for the PATH command to permit
  259. installation to the root directory for cases involving substituted or
  260. network drives.  Currently, the root directory is only allowed if the user
  261. is installing to a floppy disk, otherwise, a directory name must be given.
  262. Today we have added a "back door" to bypass this error trap.  Simply
  263. terminate the pre-stuffed default path (the first parameter in the PATH
  264. command) with a semi-colon, and The Finishing Touch will allow the user
  265. to access the root directory.  Without the semi-colon, the PATH command
  266. will function as before.  However, if the terminator is given, it is
  267. stripped from the string prior to input, and the error trap will be bypassed.
