  6.            An easy-to-use Computer Aided Software Engineering (CASE) tool
  7.  
  8.        EasyCASE is a limited function CASE (Computer Aided Software
  9.        Engineering) tool intended to simplify the generation (with a certain
  10.        amount of automation) of:
  11.  
  12.         Data Flow Diagrams (DFDs) - Yourdon/DeMarco and Gane & Sarson symbol
  13.        support provided,
  14.         Transformation Graphs (data/control flow schema diagrams) - Ward &
  15.        Mellor and Hatley-Pirbhai real time extensions supported.
  16.         State Transition Diagrams - Ward & Mellor and Hatley-Pirbhai,
  17.         Structure Charts - Yourdon/Constantine and Page-Jones,
  18.         Data Structure Diagrams - Jackson,
  19.         Entity Relationship Diagrams (ERDs) - Chen.

  21.        EasyCASE provides an easier to use, more automated method of producing
  22.        these diagrams than does a presentation graphics or drawing program in
  23.        that the drawing features provided are only those required to provide
  24.        the symbols, connections, annotation and relationships required for
  25.        the specific chart types implemented. EasyCASE is considerably less
  26.        expensive and is also easier to use than most of the full-featured
  27.        CASE tools in that it provides only the basic functions necessary for
  28.        performing and presenting structured systems analysis and design.

  30.        EasyCASE provides the capability to add the appropriate chart type
  31.        objects (processes, stores, terminators, flows, functions, modules,
  32.        couples, connections, states, transitions, entities, relationships
  33.        etc.) to the chart and then manipulate them (move, delete, modify,
  34.        label and describe etc.). EasyCASE maintains certain information about
  35.        each object and also its relationships with other objects on the
  36.        chart. Objects can be added, moved, deleted, labelled, identified and
  37.        associated with other objects on the chart. If an object is modified
  38.        in any way, any other similarly identified or associated objects on
  39.        the chart are modified also. For example : (i) if a data process
  40.        symbol on a transformation graph is moved, any attached data and/or
  41.        control flows and their labels are moved also, remaining connected to,
  42.        and associated with, the moved symbol; (ii) if a function symbol on a
  43.        structure chart is deleted, any attached connections and associated
  44.        data or control flow arrows (couples) and their labels are deleted
  45.        also; (iii) if a previously defined labelled object identifier is re-
  46.        used, the new object will inherit its label.

  48.        EasyCASE interacts quickly and easily with the user via pop-up dialog
  49.        boxes and menus and makes use of the mouse for selecting commands and
  50.        working with objects. Color is used (EGA/VGA graphics cards only),
  51.        particularly for highlighting selected and modified objects. EasyCASE
  52.        provides a sizeable drawing area (equivalent in size to 3 sheets wide
  53.        (approx. 24 inches) by 2 sheets high (approx. 21 inches) of A-size
  54.        paper) and several zoom modes, scrolling around which can be performed
  55.        using the mouse or keyboard.

  57.        The whole chart or a specific area, selectable using the mouse, can be
  58.        printed to a number of output devices which are compatible with the
  59.        following; Epson FX, Epson LQ, IBM Graphics Printers, Hewlett-Packard
  60.        Graphics HP 7475 and 7550 (HPGL) Plotters, QuietJet, LaserJet (HPLJ)

  70.        and DeskJet printers. Charts can be printed at 100, 150 and 300 dpi
  71.        resolution on HP LaserJet and DeskJet printers.

  73.        Data Dictionary support provided by EasyCASE is minimal in that it is
  74.        only provided at the chart, rather than at the project (related set of
  75.        charts) level. Information entered about each object, and the
  76.        relationship between objects, on each chart produced is exported in
  77.        dBASE III file format so that reports and analysis can be performed
  78.        using dBASE III Plus, Lotus 1-2-3, Microsoft Excel, PC-File:dB etc. A
  79.        more powerful product, EasyCASE Plus is available and provides full
  80.        data dictionary support, chart linking and much more.

  82.        Charts can also be exported in Microsoft Windows Paint (v1.0 and v2.0)
  83.        and PC Paintbrush (v3.0) file formats so that they can be incorporated
  84.        into documents when using a desktop publishing or word processing
  85.        program which can import Paint images, such as Pagemaker, Ventura
  86.        Publisher, Lotus Manuscript, PFS:First Publisher etc.

  88.        EasyCASE is intended to provide the end-user with a quick and easy
  89.        introduction to the concepts of structured analysis and design methods
  90.        and CASE which may then provide him or her with a basic knowledge of
  91.        the methods and techniques required to implement the full CASE
  92.        solution.

  94.        EasyCASE requires an IBM PC (286 or 386 -AT recommended) or compatible
  95.        equipped with a Hercules, EGA or VGA graphics card connected to a
  96.        monochrome or enhanced color monitor, Microsoft mouse (or compatible),
  97.        at least 512 kbytes of RAM. An Intel 80287 or 80387 math co-processor
  98.        will improve the speed of screen updates, chart draws and printing.

  100.        A SHAREWARE (fully functional evaluation copy, not a demo) version of
  101.        EasyCASE, with similar capabilities as the registered version, may be
  102.        obtained by sending $5 (to cover costs) to Evergreen CASE Tools
  103.        (address below). This copy  does NOT include registration, printed
  104.        manual, upgrades or technical support. However, a disk based version
  105.        of the manual (you print it) and some sample charts are included on
  106.        the disk. If you find EasyCASE suited to your needs and intend to use
  107.        it on a regular basis, you must register it by returning the enclosed
  108.        order form. During the evaluation period, you will be expected to
  109.        abide by the rules for Shareware product usage provided in the user
  110.        manual.
