  1. DEEPLOOK : a full-featured database management system to catalog the
  2.            files on floppy diskettes or the hard drive with the added
  3.            feature that it will automatically catalog the CONTENTS of
  4.            ZIP/LZH/ARC and other types of compressed files.

  6.      DEEPLOOK solves the problem of finding that computer file or program
  7. you know you have but it's buried inside a COMPRESSED file archived onto a
  8. floppy disk to save room on your hard drive.  Compressed files usually have
  9. a file name extension of .ZIP, .LZH, .ARC and sometimes even .EXE.

  11.      DEEPLOOK can automatically read the contents of your compressed
  12. files (including the self-extracting EXE files), and store the list of files
  13. in an amazingly fast database so that you can later search it or generate
  14. reports to your printer or to disk files. DEEPLOOK even has an "Auto Pilot"
  15. feature that will automatically read each file on your floppy disk or hard
  16. drive subdirectory. If it is a compressed file it can extract the names of
  17. the files therein and add them to the database. If it is not a compressed
  18. file, it will add the file name to the database but without the compressed
  19. file storage information. You can use the Auto Pilot feature or you can use
  20. the directory list that DEEPLOOK puts on the screen and individually select
  21. which files go into the database.

  23.       Toggle LOOKDEEP on/off to control reading the contents of compressed
  24. files.

  26.      There are three main programs that are used to run the DEEPLOOK
  27. database system.  (Be sure to see the list of accompanying files later in
  28. this documentation.)

  30.          DEEPLOOK.EXE : this is the directory reader which creates
  31.                         the database and adds the file names, etc. to the
  32.                         database. You've got to run this program first in
  33.                         order to create the DEEPLOOK database and put
  34.                         something in it. DEEPREPT and DEEPEDIT won't
  35.                         function properly unless there is some "data" in the
  36.                         database.

  40.                               -where d is the letter of the floppy disk
  41.                                drive you wish to index. Run DEEPLOOK without
  42.                                d to index the current hard drive
  43.                                subdirectory.

  47.          DEEPREPT.EXE : a full-featured report generator for use with the
  48.                         DEEPLOOK database.  You can create reports with
  49.                         any field, sorted by any field(s), filtered for
  50.                         value(s) in any field.  You can print the report
  51.                         to the screen, to the printer or to disk files, as
  52.                         ASCII text files or comma-delimited files which
  53.                         can later be imported into Lotus, Reflex, dBase,
  54.                         Paradox, etc., etc.

  56.          DEEPEDIT.EXE : this allows you to quickly search the DEEPLOOK
  57.                         database, and edit any field for any database
  58.                         entry.  Actually, you really should edit only the
  59.                         comment field, but the other fields are there to be
  60.                         seen and edited if you wish.  You can also
  61.                         bulk-delete files, such as deleting references to
  62.                         all the "READ.ME" files when it's not really
  63.                         necessary to have them in your database.
