- <<< Programmed by Dylan Cuthbert >>>
-
- Revision 3.
-
- CONDITIONS OF USE.
-
- Amendment: this version is hereby released to the public domain
- without any need to register. Donations are gratefully received
- however and will do no harm to my eagerness to make more
- public domain software.
-
- It would be preferable if the ZIP file is kept intact and untampered
- with for distribution.
-
-
- INFORMATION.
-
- Wavemod stands for Wave Modifier. Pretty boring name, I know,
- but waved, wavchg etc. sounded worse at the time.
-
-
- INSTALLATION.
-
- Copy wavemod.pic into \OPD, then
- copy the four source files - *.OPL into the OPL directory on your
- ram drive and compile (Psion-T from the OPL editor) each one. This
- will result in the file WAVEMOD.OPA being created in the /APP directory.
- Then select 'install' from your APPS directory on your system screen
- and select (guess what) 'WAVEMOD.OPA'. Voilá.
-
-
- USAGE.
-
- Once you are in the program itself, hitting the menu button will
- supply you with a plethora of options. Just highlight what you
- want to do, press return and pow! - bob's your uncle.
-
- A basic rule to remember is that psion-letter usually applies to
- the sample as a whole, and psion-SHIFT-letter applies to the
- currently highlighted region.
-
-
- MOVEMENT.
-
- Cursor keys move the cursor.
- Shifted cursor keys highlight a region.
- Shift-psion-cursor keys change a highlighted regions LEFT border.
- (As opposed to its right border, dummy)
- Ctrl-(above) accelerates the cursor movement by a factor of 10.
-
-
- ZOOMING.
-
- Mark a region and then press Psion-Z. This will zoom the window
- to the region. Psion-shift-Z will zoom out by a factor of two.
- (if you are too close for your liking). If no region is marked
- Psion-Z will zoom out to the full size sample.
-
-
- BACKUPS.
-
- Before making ANY change you will always be prompted whether you
- want to make a backup or not. Selecting YES will copy the sample
- to a safe place, so if you make a mistake you can 'Revert' back to
- the backup with Psion-shift-V.
- Warning: If you exit Wavemod (Psion-X) the backup file is deleted.
-
-
- DISK SPACE.
-
- Make sure you've got plenty... at least three times the length of the
- sample you're editting if you want to make a backup. And NEVER edit
- samples on flash, god no.
- Someone give me a flash card and I will program wavemod to be able to
- use them nicely.
-
-
- EXTRA NOTES.
-
- Phasing a sample of your voice several times with differing values can
- have pleasant effects.
- When filtering, the percentage value should be kept small.. eg. 2-5%.
- I always find the best results on 50Hz, 5%.
- When fading if your peaks and troughs get over-extended (oo-er! enough of
- that young lad!) they will be clipped at the maximum. This can have a
- nasty effect causing clicks in the sound.
-
-
- TECHNICAL NOTES.
-
- The A-Law tables are generated by a piece of assembler code written
- by gsg@cix.compulink.co.uk and his marvelously magnificent spuriously
- random character generating assembler. Apply now for his voice
- recognition program. You can't go wrong... well with an error margin
- of 70% you can't go *too* wrong - no I said 'too' not 'to' - no I said
- 'too' not 'tooth'.. bah. :^D
- Also take a look at S3C, which is a Small-C compiler that runs on your
- series 3 or series 3a. (the file at the time of writing is s3c101.zip)
-
- And coming soon from the gsg stables are SLIP TCP/IP drivers for your
- s3/s3a - put your psion onto the world wide web - and read your mail
- using the Takoyaki software mail reader, all of which will be coming
- soon to an ftp site near you. (e-mail for more details)
-
-
- BUG FIXES.
-
- v1.10 to v1.11 has only one bug fix. The menu key didn't work if caps
- lock was on. No other bugs have been reported, so I assume there aren't
- any?
- Amendment: samples over 64k (10 seconds) cannot be recorded. I haven't
- found the exact reason for this bug yet and I am a little busy with
- work (and developing apps for the TCP/IP drivers mentioned above), so
- if someone manages to scout out the reason I would be very
- happy.
-
