  1. This file contains installation instructions for the Psion Phoneday Tools.

  3. These instructions assume that you have the files comprising the Psion
  4. Phoneday Tools on an SSD or the internal disk of your Series 3 or 3a
  5. machine.
  6.  
  7. If you acquired the Tools on an SSD from Psion, place this SSD in one
  8. of the drives on your machine and proceed with the appropriate set of
  9. instructions below.  To have these applications available even when
  10. this SSD is not in one of the drives, copy the files Phonefix.grp,
  11. Phonefix.app, Wldfix.app and Convert.app to the internal drive before
  12. installing.  See the "Files and Disks" chapter of your computer's
  13. User Guide for information about copying files.
  14.  
  15. If you do not have the files on one or other of these media, for
  16. instance if you acquired them from an online service, you will need
  17. to copy them there before you proceed.  This can be accomplished by
  18. using a 3-link cable and associated software.  The files should be
  19. placed in the directory \APP of the destination disk.  For more
  20. information, refer to the manual which came with your 3-link.

  23. Series 3
  24. ========

  26.   1.    Switch on the computer and go to the System screen.  Select
  27.         the position where you want the icons for the Psion Phoneday
  28.         Tools to be placed.
  29.  
  30.   2.    From the "Apps" menu, select "Install application" (Psion-I).
  31.  
  32.   3.    A dialog entitled "Install application" will appear.  Locate
  33.         the file "Phonefix.app" using the top two file selector
  34.         fields.
  35.  
  36.         For example, if this file is on the SSD in drive B, move to
  37.         the Disk selector and press B.  Then move to the Name
  38.         selector and press the left and right arrow keys until the
  39.         name Phonefix.app appears between them, or press Tab and use
  40.         the file selector (see the "Files and Disks" chapter of your
  41.         Series 3 User Guide for more details) to locate this file.

  43.         If the file is on the internal disk, there is no need to
  44.         change the Disk selector, which defaults to Internal.

  46.   4.    Press Enter.  A new icon will appear on the System screen
  47.         with the title "phONEfix" underneath.
  48.  
  49.   5.    Repeat steps 2-4 for the files Wldfix.app and Convert.app.

  51.         Alternatively, if you are comfortable with the file selector,
  52.         you may tag all three files and install them simultaneously.
  53.         Again, refer to the "Files and Disks" chapter of the User
  54.         Guide for more information.

  56. There should now be a total of three new icons on the System screen,
  57. meaning that you have successfully installed the Psion Phoneday Tools.

  59. The file Phoneday.grp is not relevant to the Series 3 installation
  60. process and may be deleted.

  63. Series 3a
  64. =========

  66. You may install the Tools in two ways on the Series 3a machine.  The
  67. first is exactly as above.  The second is to install the Tools as a
  68. new Group.  You may prefer to do this, as the Tools will in this case
  69. only take up one icon position on the system screen.  To install in
  70. this way, follow these instructions:

  72.   1.    Switch on the computer and go to the System screen.  Select
  73.         the position where you want the icon for the Psion Phoneday
  74.         Tools group to be placed.
  75.  
  76.   2.    From the "Apps" menu, select "Install application" (Psion-I).

  78.   3.    A dialog entitled "Install application" will appear.  Locate
  79.         the file "Phonefix.grp" using the top two file selector
  80.         fields.

  82.         For example, if this file is on the SSD in drive B, move to

  92.   4.    Press Enter.  A new icon will appear on the System screen
  93.         with the names phONEfix, WLDfix and cONvert underneath it in
  94.         slanted writing.  These are the three applications which you
  95.         have now successfully installed.  Each application may be run
  96.         by highlighting its particular name under the icon and
  97.         pressing Enter.

  103. In case of difficulty

  106. If you experience problems with either of the above sets of instructions,
  107. you should read thoroughly the chapters "Files and Disks" and "The System
  108. Screen" in  your Series 3 or 3a User Guide.  These explain the concepts
  109. behind applications and their installation.
