  3. Powerup started as a simple routine that plays a .WVE file each time you turn
  4. on your Psion. The default sound is the tricorder from the original Star Trek.
  5. Some rather nifty features have been added ...
  6.  
  7. Powerup also records a quick message, bypassing security, if you hold down the
  8. <Esc> key when powering up. The Psion will beep and record a 5 second message
  9. to REC01.WVE, REC02, REC03, etc. You can press Tab to end the recording early.
  10. The next time you turn on the Psion, your reminder will be played. Holding down
  11. Ctrl-<Esc> when powering up will go to the Powerup screen after you enter your
  12. password. Here you can record, play, & erase recordings quickly by pressing 1,
  13. 2, 3, etc. This is perfect for quick messages in the car, in the dark, in bed,
  14. or when you are pressed for time.

  16. Hold down the System button with the Psion off and the Psion will turn on in
  17. Stealth mode (silently). Hold it down again with the Psion off and Sound will
  18. be restored. You can change sound settings manually by pressing Psion-<S> from
  19. the System screen. The quick record will still work in Stealth mode, but you
  20. will not hear any beeps. To use a different startup sound, change Name$ in
  21. POWERUP.OPL or overwrite TRICORD.WVE with your favorite sound effect. To
  22. adjust the default recording length, change line RSecs%=5 in POWERUP.OPL.

  24. Powerup comes with a companion OPL called HOURLY which beeps on the hour (even
  25. if it's off, except from 1am to 7am). When first run, you will be asked if you
  26. wish to set Auto Off to 15 seconds. If you are not running Powerup, choose yes
  27. so your Psion will turn off automatically after beeping on the hour. Otherwise,
  28. just say no and Powerup will turn it off for you.

  32. 1) Copy the .WVE file to a \WVE\ directory. Copy all .OPO files to \OPO\
  33. 2) Run POWERUP.OPO & HOURLY.OPO (they will move to background after beeping)
  34. 3) You have permission to modify POWERUP.OPL for personal use if you promise
  35.    to e-mail enhancements to ccocssw@acme.gatech.edu
  36. 4) To turn either OPO off, choose Exit application from the System menu or
  37.    press Psion-<Esc> from within the program

  42. Powerup & Hourly will NOT drain your batteries and will NOT slow your processor
  43. while running in background; long recordings will. Use rechargeables. Memory is
  44. 8KB. Enjoy! We are working on a simple speech recognition app for speed dialing
  45. and a text to speech util that will give the Psion 3a a spoken agenda, document
  46. reader, more personality, and other capabilities.
