- Flea Racer Professional by Paul Womar
-
- Thanks for trying out the Shareware version of Flearacer Profes-
- sional and I hope that you have many hours of enjoyment from it
- but remember it is Copyright Paul Womar 1994 and may NOT be re-
- verse translated or distributed in any changed form, this includes
- the registration file on registered versions. I also accept no
- responsibility for anything happening due to the use of this pro-
- gram, you are using this program at your own risk and I can not
- accept any responsibility for anything happening due to the use of
- this program from severe twitching of the left knee to turning the
- player into a large vibrating blamange (I can't think of any rea-
- son why this may happen but it's better to be safe than sorry!).

-
- Flea Racer Professional-"The Instructions".
-
- Flea Racer Professional is based upon the normal rules of horse
- betting. The horses in this case are actually fleas, all of which
- are rated at odds of 10:1 so really the chances of you becoming
- better off whilst playing are in your favour as there are only 8
- fleas. Unfortunately it`s not quite that simple as the order of
- the fleas is 100% random except if any steroids or headstarts have
- been purchased (more about those later). When you first start the
- game you are presented with the title screen which will scroll
- upwards (this can be skipped by pressing a key when registered),
- then a dialogue will appear asking for the number of people play-
- ing, 1 to 8 people are allowed to bet, then select the flea speed:
- Slow,Fair,Fast,Turbo (best results are obtained with fast or fair
- is more tension is required), then select sound off, beeps or sam-
- ples, when samples are selected beeps are also used and samples
- are played 1, At the very beginning 2, After the title screen and
- 3, When the first flea crosses the line these samples are not in-
- cluded as they take up too much room, if you would like these
- samples just place the files Begin.Wav,Welcome.Wav & Finish.Wav
- (respectively) into any WAV directory. Finally if you are regis-
- tered you can select new or loaded game.
- The next dialogue presented is the names dialogue where the most
- often used 10 names are stored. To begin with, all names will be
- useless so press space to select a new name, type it in then press
- the return key and repeat for each player( if no name is entered
- you will be known as Player #). When the name selections are com-
- plete you can begin the betting simply type the amount you wish to
- bet (bearing in mind that if the bet is an each way bet you will
- have to pay the bet twice), the # of the flea that you wish to bet
- on (from 1-8), whether you want to bet each way (1st,2nd or 3rd)
- or "On the nose" (1st only) and finally when the 17.5% tax should
- be deducted (from your bet or from your winnings). When you have
- completed this press enter and pass to the next player until the
- race begins (more about that later on).
- You can bring up the options dialogue by pressing "Tab" (This
- dialogue will only apply to registered users). This dialogue al-
- lows you to withdraw, pay in and give money as well as being able
- to enter the casino or select help (more about help later). To
- make a withdraw simply select the option and type the amount you
- desire (NOTE: you must have a sufficient overdraft for the re-
- quired amount). Each race that takes place will mean an extra 10%
- interest will be added to any money owing or if you are in credit
- you will get 1% interest per race. Pay in is used to pay in money
- and to repay your loans when you have your money back. Give money
- is used to give some of your money to another player who is in
- debt (you must know what # player they are first). Just in-case
- any of you are thinking about taking out money and never repaying
- it a little "feature" has been added that makes upto half of your
- winnings from the current race go towards paying back what you
- owe. The casino is just there for a quick gamble at playing higher
- or lower. The amount won is only your bet back+the amount that you
- betted. The risks are high when playing higher or lower as the
- next card could be the same as the last and so you may loose and
- also the "cards" are 100% random so anything could happen and the
- risk is not really worth taking unless you are feeling lucky.
- The shop is just that. It allows you to purchase either a 20
- pixel (screen dot) headstart for £100 or some steroids. Steroids
- will give your fleas that extra edge but even if you have 99%
- steroids it is still possible that it may not win due to the to-
- tally random nature of the game (only one of each is allowed each
- race but you will not be prevented from buying another so watch
- out!). Please also be careful about when you enter the shop as
- when you enter the shop the products purchased will be used on the
- flea number that was in the dialogue box just before you entered
- the shop and if you change the flea after buying the steroids/
- headstart it will still apply to the previous flea (Confused?).
- Example: You type in flea 4 as your selected flea and you the en-
- ter the shop and buy a headstart but then decide to bet on flea 7,
- flea 4 will have the headstart NOT flea 7 (this can have it's ad-
- vantages as it allows you to buy advantages for friends who have
- used up their limit (don't forget to charge them though!)).
- Once all of the selections are complete the race will begin.
- Each flea uses a totally random movement pattern (except when
- steroids have been purchased as they increase the distance trav-
- elled a little every time) and the results are totally UN-pre-
- dictable: NO fleas are "better" than others. In the bottom of
- right of the screen you will see the finishing line-up, when the
- race is over the screen will stop (the race can be paused at any
- time with the "p" button) and you have to press a key to continue.
- You will then see the results screen and this will show what
- flea was betted on, by who, what position it came in at, the total
- cash (not the amount won!) and also the finishing line-up again.
- Then it`s time for the betting to start all over again. If you
- press the "s" key on the results screen it allows you to save the
- game and quit.
- The help screen can not be called during setup, name selection
- or racing but at other times it can be called up by pressing
- "Help", from the options menu or sometimes by pressing "Esc". The
- Quit option in the help dialogue does not tell you about quit it
- does it!
