  4. Thank you for your interest in our VT100 emulator for the Psion Series  
  5. 3a.  This file should come to you as part of a zipped file called 
  6. VT100V25.ZIP which should contain
  7.

  9. 2)     VT100SLO.APP - the demonstration version of our VT100 product
  10. 3)     VTDEMO.TXT - instructions on how to use VT100SLO.APP on your
  11.        Psion Series 3a
  12. 4)     UUDECODE.EXE - used if you but the product from us through the
  13.        Internet

  15. Widget Software Ltd sells a range of products for the Psion Series 3a,
  16. including this VT100 emulator.

  21. In order for you to test VT100 before you buy it, we provide VT100SLO.APP, a
  22. version with all the features of the real thing except one:-the demo only works
  23. at 300 baud.

  28. New Features in v2.5
  29. --------------------
  30.  
  31. Version 2.5 includes a buffer large enough to take the contents of
  32. a page of text. This makes using VT100 quicker, and means that if you
  33. have incorrectly set the handshaking (which many people do) it is less
  34. likely that you will overflow the buffer.

  37. The VT100 Emulator
  38. ------------------

  40. The Psion Serial Link (RS232) includes a built-in application called 'Comms'
  41. which allows users to dial in to the simplest form of on-line systems.
  42.  
  43. The Widget Software VT100 emulator allows users to log on to the many other on-
  44. line systems which use the more sophisticated VT100 standard. Many databases
  45. or company email systems require VT100 emulation from all terminals.

  48. your Psion Series 3a, please try out this free demonstration version of our
  49. software.

  52. Technical details

  55. VT100 provides an 80 column by 24 line full-screen emulation of the DEC  
  56. VT-100 terminal. VT100 is designed to complement the built-in 'Comms'  
  57. app, and many of the menu options and hot-keys will be familiar if you  
  58. have used 'Comms'. 
  59.  
  60. VT100 supports most of the features of the real terminal, including: 
  61. * forward and reverse scrolling
  62. * highlighting 
  63. * underline 
  64. * inverse video,  
  65. * graphic box characters 
  66. * keypad emulation 
  67. * insert/overwrite mode 
  68. * autowrap, 
  69. * Delete and Enter key mapping 
  70. * full serial port and handshake configuration
  71. * clear screen and reset terminal 
  72. * tab settings 
  73. * full cursor movement 
  74. * line and block erase
  75. * xmodem and ymodem file transfer protocols
  76. * scalable fonts, allowing you to view either the full screen or a virtual
  77.   window on the screen

  80. between sessions, log incoming data to a file, pause the screen, and get  
  81. help on the various options.

  122. your billing currency - at the moment of writing UKP 50 is slightly less 
  123. than US$75 so US citizens will save a few cents by paying Visa rather than by

  127. How we deliver to you

  130. We always send you a full copy of the program on 3.5 inch floppy disk
  131. plus a product manual. It fits into a medium sized envelope which we will
  132. mail to you anywhere in the world.

  134. We can also deliver the file VT100.APP to you through the Internet.
  135. In order to travel through the Internet, we send you the file uuencoded
  136. as a mail message.
  137.  
  138. If you order from us by email, we will send you what looks like a very
  139. strange message in reply. It will consist entirely of ASCII characters,
  140. but in a form which makes no sense to the reader.

  142. Save this mail message to disk on your PC. Call the file VT100.uue.
  143. Then, using the file UUDECODE.EXE which is in the same zip file as these
  144. instructions type

  148. The file you received through the Internet mail will be reconstructed
  149. into a file called VT100.APP which will replace the file VT100SLO.APP
  150. you got with this zip file.

  152. This will get you started while the floppy disk and manual are 
  153. still travelling through the world's postal services.
